This is a great news for India. Aus are on a slide and a poor NZ team beating them in their own backyard will shatter their confidence even more. I expect India to win the series by two tests. Eng was different with swinging conditions made Indian batsmen struggle. On hard true Aus pitches Indian batsmen will dominate this Aus attack.

on flat tracks their fast bowlers will be negated and we'll pile tons of runs and win. on green tracks we'll take them out for low totals and win. that is the problem when your bowling and batting strengths don't match as in the case of oz - good fast bowlers but can't play fast bowling.

Generally, when teams lose a close fought contest, they tend to rally themselves and do better in the next series. Of course, that doesn’t mean it has to happen every time. Last year, there was a lot of criticism over Australia’s decision to tour India just before the Ashes saying that a defeat in India would further impact Aussie morale before such an important series. But to be fair, the Aussies nearly pulled out an unlikely win in that series and only a VVS special could save us.

the pessimism is off the charts on both sides. on aussie forums, you will encounter ppl calling for ponting to be dropped, hussey to be dropped, and an overall sense of anxiety regarding the aussie bowling attack's ability to bowl india out twice. the result of the NZ series is largely irrelevant, but in some ways a bad thing since it will ensure that australia are motivated to turn things around. that doesnt mean **** if your players aren't in form though. i think one factor that has been largely overlooked by nervous ppl in the media and by the ignorant "fans" is india's preparation. the test specialists are in the nets as we speak, fine tuning their game. the remainder of the squad arrives this week. there are two practice games scheduled, the 2nd against a very strong opposition with international class players from top to bottom. this kind of preparation is unheard of for an indian side. rahul dravid spoke about the problems in 2007/08, when many indian batsmen had their first bat in the opening test because the practice match was washed out. thats not happening this time. everybody will have runs going into the 1st test. for once, i think it's reasonable to expect a better show in the first test - much like 2003/04 when zaheer took 5 to run through the aussie batting lineup, ganguly got 144 and laxman 75. set the tone for the rest of the series. preparation and adjusting to conditions is key, and FOR ONCE india have taken it seriously.
