Rahul Dravid's speech at the Sir Don Bradman Oration in Canberra

In between his speech has been loved worldwide and got huge respect for him worlwide. I am posting some comments from another cricket forum (an Australian) to show how much people liked it.

Awesome speech.

Obviously a very humble man. Always seemed like a decent, honourable guy it will be a shame ill be vying for his blood over the coming weeks.

I had no intention of reading that entire speech but if you have a spare 10 mins......do yourself a favour. Always respected Dravid but my respect his increased 10 fold after that insightful speech. He certainly has a brilliant knowledge and respect for the game and I am in total agreeance with the direction he would like to see the game go. The ICC could do a lot worse than giving this bloke a gig when he retires.

This guy is the greatest individual to play the game in my lifetime.

Agreed with pretty much everything he said, the bits I could be bothered to read, anyway. It's a pity the new Indian players like Raina and Kholi act like such t*ssers - they ought to take a leaf out of Dravid's book.

I think he would have taken some hellp with editing etc, but theme of the speech and majority of content would have been his only. It is difficult to deliver a speech very authoritatively and passionately, the way he did, if it is not your own. In any case Rahul is very fond of reading and is kinda bookworm. He comes across as a very suave person with good command on what he speaks. This whole image goes along very well and gets re-inforced with his on-field conduct. Not many players in cricketing world would possess such skills.

Actually I cant concentrate for more than 5-10 mins... I read his speech in three shifts within 4-5 hrs.. Because i wanted to read it.

this guy needs to retire. his speech, much like his batting, is unnecessarily prolonged, and about as dreary as anything i have ever come across. just like he spends a million deliveries to get off the mark, he drones on and on about crap that nobody cares about, with no end in sight. if you cant express your thoughts briefly, you should just piss off. the beauty of speech is gauged by brevity. nobody can be bothered to hear some dullard drone on and on about some crap that is largely irrelevant to modern day circumstance. i read the first paragraph, fell asleep. tried listening to the audio, fell asleep after 5 minutes. its just like when you watch his batting!! watch 30 minutes of dravid playing forward defense to part time bowlers is a proven cure for insomnia. good night everyone. zzz.

Dude one of India's greatest speeches which was delivered by our first PM at the midnight hour also takes time to read. A speech is not a twitter post. A speech involves sharing of experiences and wisdom. A speech has a theme woven around it and points made in support or against it. A good speech is necessarily rich in content, language, and both the quality and quantity of points the speech-giver makes. In case you did not understand Rahul's speech here are the salient points - a. He is privileged to be giving this speech coz the Don is possibly the greatest bat ever b. He finds greater commonalities between India and Aus because we fought together and had a common enemy 3. He thinks the one dimensional view of India as a cricketing country is mistaken 4. He thinks the Indian team is a microcosm of the country itself 5. He wants cricketers to be ambassadors of the game and deal with corruption 6. He feels the formats of cricket need to be managed well and suggests a way to do so 7. Finally calls upon everyone involved to keep the most important stakeholder in cricket in mind and respect that stakeholder...the fan.
