Number
Rohit is not technically much better than virat . Infact the ball VK got today ' date=' Sharma will be oput 9 of 10 times .[/quote'] kohli moves his front foot across the line and will have problems against inswingers. His technique doesn't allow him to play late where as rohit does have good time to play his strokes. Kohli will come good sooner or later but atm i feel rohit can contribute more. More than kohli's faliure it has got to do with our batting unit failing again and again. Link to comment
Jersey #10
Everybody failed why single out kohli? u didn't watch the match did you? He looked out of place. Same can be said about Gambhir, Laxman and Dhoni too. Link to comment

More than kohli's faliure it has got to do with our batting unit failing again and again. I don't care about kohli's failures. But his attitude is the main problem. He will get certainly get better with his technique in the future, but if keeps reciting maa-behan gaalis every time he gets out, it will only hinder him. He needs to STFU and go work on his technique. Link to comment
BERGKAMP
play both ro and ko. shift dravid up to open (which lets be honest he practically does in most matches anyway) and drop one of the dilli boyz. Link to comment
gaurav92
Rohit should but Kohli will. Link to comment
chainsmoker1985
Rohit should bat higher up the order if he is in the team. He has that kind of game and technique to negate the dangerous balls, spend more time at the crease and remove the shine off the ball new ball so that it becomes easier for the middle order batsmen Link to comment
deathmonger
u didn't watch the match did you? He looked out of place. Same can be said about Gambhir, Laxman and Dhoni too. Very true. Ashwin looked far more assured than all our batsmen except SRT. Link to comment

CG
I would give kohli one more match before drafting in sharma. yes make sharma debut at perth when we are 2-0 down even if we know kohli is not good enough. Link to comment

From now on, Ashwin is going 2 get his full share of short pitch bowling. His weakness has come out and opposition is going 2 exploit that Link to comment

Needforspeed
Ability in ODIs should not be a criteria for a place in Tests. Mukund and Rohit have better technique (along with Pujara) than Rahane or Virat. Virat and Raina are excellent ODI players. You cant change basic technique at this stage. Ashwin has better technique and temperament for Test Cricket compared to Virat. Link to comment

exams
acc to me rohit is not number 6 type batsman..he is more of no 3 or no 4 type of batsman.. rohit fans..wait for atleast dravid or tendulkar to retire:hatsoff: Link to comment
Needforspeed
The way Kohli played in the tests in W.Indies and in the MCG test, I think playing him in the next test would be a waste of one batsman. Neither temperament nor technique. But I think he will play in Sydney and would like to be proved wrong. Link to comment

Needforspeed
A lot of batsmen start at 6 and then move up if they perform well. +1. In fact it is the Indian tradition that new batsmen play whcihever slot is available. The seniors are not moved out like they did with Ponting in Australia. Link to comment

Should he be picked? http://www.espncricinfo.com/australia-v-india-2011/content/current/story/547565.html Sidharth Monga at the SCG January 1, 2012 Comments: 70 | Login via | Text size: A | A Rohit Sharma: "You never know, somebody might get injured on the day of the Test. You have to be ready." Ž© AFP Enlarge Related LinksPlayers/Officials: Rohit Sharma Series/Tournaments: India tour of Australia Teams: Australia | India Rohit Sharma has said that he is mentally ready should he be asked to make his Test debut at the SCG on Tuesday. If he is asked to play, it will be in the place of Virat Kohli, who has scored 107 runs in seven Test innings away from home. Kohli was dropped after a disappointing tour of the West Indies, and then scored two fifties against the same side when recalled for a home Test. In the first Test of this series, he scored 11 and 0. Rohit said he has to stay mentally prepared all through the tour, even if he doesn't get a game. "Of course [i'm ready]," he said. "I don't want to be unprepared. My preparation has to be 100%. It doesn't matter if I am playing or not. Preparation has to always be the same. I have to be ready [to play] each and every time. Because you never know, somebody might get injured on the day of the Test. You have to be ready." Rohit should know about injuries on the morning of a Test: one he suffered during the warm-ups cost him his Test debut in Nagpur, against South Africa, in early 2010. Under MS Dhoni, India have been known to given players a decent run before dropping them, if required. Keeping that in mind, smart money has to be on Kohli getting another chance. They haven't been told either way as of now. "As far as the team combination is concerned, we have not decided anything yet," Rohit said. "Maybe tomorrow we will have a better idea as to what the wicket will be like. Probably by tomorrow I will be told whether I am playing or not." Rohit said the morale in the team is "very good" right now. "We really had a good time off," he said. "We had a team get-together yesterday, which was nice. And we got back again today to see how we are going to take it forward. We don't want to think about what has happened. We need to focus on what we have to do now. The process is still on. Hopefully things will turn around for us. "We spoke about what went wrong, and what we need to do, and stuff like that. Which always happens, whether you win or lose. That is nothing new for us. As I said, we need to keep doing the right things." Rohit gave credit to the Australian bowlers for their performance at the MCG, but denied the notion that the Indian batsmen might be shaken up or intimidated. "Not shaken up," he said. "They really bowled well, we need to accept that. Our batters also batted well in the first innings, but somehow we didn't manage that in the second. Credit goes to their bowlers." Link to comment
