Worried about Dhonis test batting

On the back of a small discussion in another thread about this, I think Dhonis batting is going to be a big problem for us. He is quite vulnerable against the short ball and also struggles to face swing and seam, constantly nicking off to the slips and wk. To counter this IMO he should go out with a 'Sehwag' mentality from ball one, try to get quick runs and not worry too much about scratching around and getting his eye in. Even if he fires only half the time getting a quick 30 or 40 it will be better than a string of 5s and 10s coming at a strike rate of 50.

Away from Asia, he averages 30 with no centuries in 45 innings (average of 17 in Australia from eight innings) so probably best not to expect much from him in this series. I agree that its better he goes after the bowling immediately and try to add a few runs instead of scratching around for ages given his inadequate technique against quality pace bowling.

He's one pf the better players of short pitch stuffs amongst the not so old players. Yes, offlate he has struggled in tests but to say that he always struggles against swing and seam is an understatement. He did pretty well for a WK bat in the 2 tours 2 SA and the one in England in 2007.

Outside India, he shud always play an attacking game. Outside India, he is not going to survive defending and poking outside off stump. You can do that in India. So, its better to play your natural game and get as many runs as quickly as possible in small period of time. The more time you will stay at the crease, the more chances of getting out

dont know whats the deal with him and sehwag , both struggle to touch 40 average in one format and yet manage to cross 50 in another. maybe dhoni thinks " mere se pehle sehwag sachin dravid laxman batting ko jate agar unse nahi kuch hua toh main kya khamba ukhad loonga"

His technique isnt really suited for test cricket - plays too much with hard hands, doesnt defend properly and flashes at anything outside the off stump. You can get away with these limitations in the subcontinent but not in bowling friendly conditions. But despite all the limitations, IMO Dhoni will still play 2-3 great innings in Australia. The key is to lower expectations, and hope the big 3 click so Dhoni doesn't come in a position to bail us out of trouble.

There is always an extra motivation of seeing Yuvraj or Raina bat in tests....He might always think that "kam se kam isse bekaar tho nahi kheloonga"

Dhoni will play a couple of blinders in Australia as well. He has a quota of 1 or 2 important knocks in every series. Should be good enough with our star-studded legendary batting line-up.
