I think just the BIG 3 can do the job. Otherwise, why are they faltu mein called 'Big 3'? Play the Big 3, Dhoni, five trundlers and two spinners. Perfect winning recipe!

Dude, I have data to back my claim. In all eras of Test cricket it is seen that batsmen number 1 to 6 contribute about 72-78% of the total team runs. When you add batsman number 7 to this the contribution ranges from 78-83%. The top order contributes around 12-13% per batsman whereas the 7th batsman adds only around 6-7%. You can verify these figures if you want using cricinfo. Edit - Of course in my argument I am also expecting Dhoni to contribute like a number 6 batsman. I can understand if the number 6 was Ganguly but given our number 6 batsmen I dont see why we need to depend upon them. Especially given the caliber of our 1 to 5 I think they can cover for the inclusion of Irfan instead of another batsman...that is the t,s,p,c - try to argue within that

Many Indian players got pregnant before IPL too, and many are fit post-IPL as well. Pregnancy and hunger to play for the country/keeping themselves fit are choices, and some people choose what is convenient for them. Without IPL too, I guess RP would be as pregnant.

Enough of blaming the IPL Ishant Sharma has had enough rest. He does not even play in the ODIs now a days. Varun Aaron has barely played any ipl. Same for Umesh

The IPL itself brings 75% of all the riches the BCCI has... most of these money goes into development of cricket in iNDIA... the fact that we see all these beautiful stadiums upgraded with comfortable seats and good enough facilities throughout INDIA is a testimony to that since prior to the start of IPL the conditions of these grounds would be known pretty well to some of our fellow posters here... IPL is a crap tournament no doubt but the money it brings is huge... the fact is BCCI doesnot want to reduce the International workload to go with the IPL. However even in such a case we see a lot of our Indian batsmen mostly fit since they are easily able to get rest allowing other guys in line but the same can't be said about our bowlers since not many in our bowling lineup are settled in the team to ask for rest... therefore what happens is they start hiding their injuries therefore making the job of Indian selectors difficult... Blaming IPL is as easy as it gets but the fact that IPL has done a lot of good for Indian cricket not limiting to good stadiums which got uplifted for these showdowns, ringing the cash registers for BCCI, providing enough ex-cricketeers with oppourtunities to get linked with the sport they enjoyed so much... So next time you call for scrapping of the IPL, think again...

+1 take the new stadium in Pune. Possible in part due to the finance they will get from Sahara Pune Warriors playing there. Ipl should not even be an issue Zaheer khan -----> not played international cricket for few months Umesh Yadav------> did not play many games in the IPL, played some ODIs and tests Varun Aaron ------> did not play many games in the IPL, played some ODIs and tests Ishant Sharma ------> Not part of ODI side, light work load P Kumar-------> Not part of WC. Not part of WI test series before the aus tour. Mithun ------> not played much this year Vinay-----> not played many tests this year. Of all the bowlers selected there is not a single one who has played in all of India's matches in all formats. Fatigue does not come into the question

No big deal. Guy is average at best anyway. As long as we bat well, ZK and Yadav stay fit, Aus will be wary. Just unlucky that the Kerala Express is injured. He could have been our saviour even if half fit. Happy with Dinda call if this is true. The cupboard is bare and Dinda is nippy and gets movement. Biggest loss for this series is Sree and then possibly PK, but we don't know how he would fare outside of overcast conditions.

New Delhi: Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly on Sunday revealed that Bengal pacer Ashok Dinda will fly to Australia as a cover for the injured fast bowler, Ishant Sharma, who has been ruled out of the three-day practice match starting in Canberra on Monday. "Ashok Dinda will fly to Australia as a cover to Ishant in next 24 hours. My sources have confirmed this," Ganguly told a news channel. "Dinda is India's best pace bowler right now and should have been on that plane to Australia in first place with rest of the squad," he said. Ishant is recovering from an injury in his left ankle which forced him to leave the field after bowling just 5.3 overs against Cricket Australia Chairman's XI on Thursday. However, the team management sounded optimistic about Ishant's participation in the series opener from December 26. "The doctor has advised him rest till Monday. So we would have a fresh look at him on Tuesday. But the work on him is going on and he's improving," said media manager G S Walia Sunday morning. The lanky fast bowler did come with the rest of his teammates to Manuka Oval this morning but spent the entire duration either strolling at the ground or turning his arm over from a stationery position at the nets. Ganguly said Ishant should not figure in the team if he is not 100 percent fit. "This is a very long tour. If Ishant has pain in his ankle, then he should be rested for the first Test. The final Test of the series will be very crucial. You cannot play a bowler having even 50 per cent of fitness level. It will put immense pressure on the team like we saw in England where Zaheer broke down in the fist Test at Lord's and India never recovered," he said. "The Indian team management, be it skipper or the selector, if he is touring along, have to take a decision immediately. If Ishant isn't fully fit, and has little chance of recovering, then he should be sent back home," he added. The mystery surrounding Ishant's fitness has also irked Kapil Dev. "What is the need to hide anything in this age when there is so much of media presence and everything is being watched so closely," Kapil said. "Him bowling just 5.3 overs in the practice match is definitely worrisome. Good if he is given rest and time to get fit again but if his injury is serious then I am very worried about the Indian team's pace department," he added.

Huge compliments for Dinda from Dada. He has seen him bowl in the last 4-5 matches , so surely knows how well Dinda is bowling. Would be interesting to see if things turn out the way Dada has predicted.
