Will Rahul Dravid continue to man the first slips position?

He used to field all the time at first slip with Azhar at second. They never exchanged positions.
Yaar, Azhar was 10-15 years back - Tendulkar manned first slip in the NZ tour briefly and was looking completely out of place. I did not follow that series very closely but I think he also dropped a couple of chances there. But yeah, I agree that in the 90s and before Dravid graduated from short leg to slip, Tendulkar was our regular first slip fielder.

Yeah, the 90s is a long time back but my point was that if you're going to put him in the slip cordon again, it makes sense to put him in a position where he was fielded in a lot - which happens to be first slip. Like I mentioned earlier, I wouldn't have him in the slip cordon at all. I'd go for someone younger like Kohli.

^ If we don't end up fielding Mithun and Vinay Kumar as our opening attack, there will be places in Australia where you would need three slips and a gully. For me Sehwag is still the best gully fielder in the side. So, that leaves the three slips - from my reading Tendulkar is just not as good as Laxman or Dravid to be at first slip despite his having manned that position before Dravid became a regular. Completely agree on the Kohli point - I don't believe in giving soft debuts in test cricket. Throw Kohli in the cauldron on the 26th and let's see what he is made of! Even if he spills a catch or two, we would at least be able to identify if this guy is a future first slip fielder. If one chooses to play it safe, my cordon would be Laxman, Dravid, Kohli, and Sehwag at gully unless India can afford to fly Holding out and bowl for them and we need a fourth slip, which then would go to Tendulkar.

Good to see Sachin at first slip... dravid is more good at 3rd slip because off late he aint so safe... it will be interesting to see who stands in slip when ash gets the ball

How the eff can he drop that? How the EFFFFFFF! For every catch he takes, he drop one and a half. This could have been the make or break moment of the series and the dude's snoozing out there.

Dravid at 1st slip is a joke now. Problem is for team mangt is were else do you put him. As he is so slow and unathletic now that he is awful anywere
It isnt that. The problem is, nobody in the team management has the courage to walk up to the 17 year old veteran/world record holder and and say 'Mate, i know you have been awesome so far, but i think its time for someone else to take up that mantle..'

Dravid does not have problem with catches from pacers,But he has missed quite a few of spinners laxman is the best man to take his place currently.
