sometime back, I pulled out this stat on one of my rare tour to statsguru.. SRT vs DGB in lost matches.. Hence proved, however great these are, they failed to perform under pressure.

I wouldn't quite look at average in wins or losses to deduce anything because doing that is putting the cart before the horse. To conclude someone is "match winner" (a fairly vague term in itself) because he has good average in wins is fallacious in more ways than one. It could mean: 1. The batsman is the dominant player in his team and hence his team rarely wins without his contributions (example: Andy Flower) 2. The batsman tends to score heavily against weaker oppositions and in favourable conditions which also happen to be situations when his team more likely wins (example: Inzaman ul-Haq) And vice-versa for average in losses. Result of a match (win or loss) is not a condition that applies when a player is performing unlike strength of opposition, pitch condition or scorecard pressure. Therefore applying those after-the-fact filters can result in conclusions that reverse the causality. I would rather look at 4th innings averages to judge somone's "match winning ability" (however vague that is) irrespective of outcome of the match. For ODIs the equivalent could be average when chasing a total of 250+. Of course that's overly simplistic too, so I will actually avoid using the term match winner completely, I would rather use "performer under pressure" or "performer against the toughest opposition" etc.

I should have mentioned the context.. it was from one of those V_D's threads.. SRT does not perform when needed or his centuries don't help.. something like that.. Should not be taken too seriously.

Sachin is arguably the best of his generation n Bradman was the best of his generation. Beyond this, the comparison does not seem to reach any conclusions. Even to myself, I can't tell who is greater - sachin or Bradman.

56.57 thats what wikipedia shows. But nowadays players doesnt even have this average maybe kallis.
