zen Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Let's not reduce ourselves to the fanatics' level w/ stuff like Richards is not an ATG beiing proposed .... SRT is a ATG Only thing to debate is how do we rank the ATGs ....
Patiala Peg Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Let's not reduce ourselves to the fanatics' level .... SRT is a great batsman Agreed. But atleast half a dozen qualify to be better than him in tests ! Ditto in ODIs !
zen Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Agreed. But atleast half a dozen qualify to be better than him in tests ! Ditto in ODIs ! In tests, could be In ODIs, not sure because SRT is amongst the top two. You can debate whether you want to place Richards higher or SRT
Patiala Peg Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 In tests, could be In ODIs, not sure because SRT is amongst the top two. You can debate whether you want to place Richards higher or SRT Well he opens batting on the flattest wickets in the world in India on pocket sized grounds..just look at the scores we have had last 10 years ! Viv averaged 47 at a strike rate of 90 when 200 was a par score. SRT avgs about 45 at stiek rate of 85 when 300 is a par score. LOL. No comparison. ( ..tsk tsk..wait for fanatics to count the countless number of ODIS he has played to score all those runs ) . Talk about quantity vs Quality. hehehe... At the end of his career, Dhoni would count as India's greatest ever ODI batter. I would put Viv Richards, Gilchrist, Dhoni and Michael Bevan above him at the very least.
SachDan Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Yeah..i don't lose my patriotism because I expose SRT's true aaukat. Probably a million times the Patriot you can be. You said the choker scoring a ton is more important than India winning somewhere. Disgusting. Stop watching cricket . This is indiancricketfans.com not tenchokersfan.com Show that (non-existent) post or stfu :finger: Well ofc this is indiancricketfans.com and if only any newbies happens to go through all your posts they'll have second thoughts about it :giggle:

I remember there was this ODI series in Pak which we won. Dhoni and Yuvi had done pretty well in that series but the way SRT played the new ball was superb and this shielded guys like Dhoni and Yuvi In Odis, I would have SRT in the top 2-3 of AT. Make it top 2 because I can't think of any other name besides Richards and SRT. Sobers didn't play ODIs (played only 1 so not counting that)

He opens for his own good, not to " shield " others. Flat wickets, white ball does not move as much , no slips and a selfless player like Sehwag to take all the risk. Remember how he said he preferred opening than playing at No.4 , because he prefers the ball coming on early on and that is the position where he has got most of his tons ! Why does SRT not want to " shield " others in Tests by opening like in ODIs...hint hint... hehehe

If these guys had to bat in the first 12-15 overs, they "might" have perished early

Just look at the of leading ODI runs scorers and you would see a huge majority of them as openers. I like Dhoni, because he has been a super consistent finisher par excellence something that our team lacked for many years. Plus the knock that Dhoni played as captain of the home side in WC finals ..has sealed his name among the greatest of the ODI greats. That knocks significance under the circumstances and pressure is alot more than thousands of SRT useless masala's runs and tons.

BeautifulGame Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 The reason why Sachin in his last 5 years average so much higher than Viv is because the quality of bowling attacks declined dramatically in the last 7-8 years. When Vi played his last few years it was the toughest for batting whereas the last 5-6 years are easiest for batting in nearly 50-60 years. There is really why highly inferior batsmen like Sangakara and Kallis average similar to Sachin and Lara.Because the peak of Sachin and Lara coincided with the greatest era of bowlers whereas the peak of Kallis Sanga Sehwag etc have coincided with the weakest era for bowlers. Similarly when Viv played his cricket his entire era was mostly dominated by bowlers and yet he dominated every great bowler(fast or spin) of him time and without the equipments of modern batsmen too.So saying him is not comparable to Sachin as an ATG great based on averages is simply illogical. If we have to only argue with stats then Kallis is twice the player Sachin is.But greatness of most ATGs are beyond stats and numberss in my view

bulbul Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 I think the one below is from Viv's later part of his career: oU2iQPCwHcQ Imran's reaction tells it all :giggle: .... that's Viv's effect :--D :two_thumbs_up:
The Outsider Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 For me it's always been between Tendulkar and Richards for the top spot, with Tendulkar edging it till his second consecutive failure in a World Cup final last year. After that it has been Richards as the number 1. I would not hold one World Cup final failure against a player because it's cricket and such things happen, but looking at World Cup finals history guys like Warne and Richards were able to bounce back at their second attempt. Murali is another big name who has failed in two World Cup finals, but then I doubt too many people would put him in the top 10 of ODI bowlers anyway - at least I won't.

His performance in finals during this 10 year span suggests that he has choked constantly in the finals. ( yes he played one great knock in group game against Pak in 2003 ). http://tinyurl.com/7vc4yyx It cannot be an aberration, because apart from finals he did well in that timeframe of 10 years otherwise.
SachDan Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Why don't you try SRT's luck with Mcgrath+ Warne at 37.8 C in Melbourne+ Perth..say SRT vs Donald + Pollock when sunrise at 6.32 AM etc.. ..he may win a cookie or two there also perhaps. Haha Unfortunately the little man gets owned comprehensively against ATG fast bowlers. Proved and dusted. Poor " ATG" could not top ICC rankings for more than 3 years despite spending 3 decades in the game. WHo is Patriot ? BossBhai :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: All of us believe you patriot..err patiala peg :giggle:
Patiala Peg Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 BossBhai :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: All of us believe you patriot..err patiala peg :giggle: Yeah..I've got called a Paki 2 times already for exposing SRT's aaukat viz other greats so may be I am not a " true " patriot in the eyes of some fanatics. Yeah don't believe me...I am not a patriot by your criteria. hehehehe..
The Outsider Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 ^ Arre jhandu balm quit the make belief, seedhe seedhe bol de na ki haan main patriot hoon aur ICF ke bina nahin rah sakta hoon and try better in the second innings. Now is your chance to differentiate yourself from the choker of second innings. Patiala Peg seems to have multiple personalities using patriot and Patiala Peg sharing the same computer. No soup for you! and you! and you!
