He first came onto scene inTest cricket vs the Aussie and looked a future test opener with a potential of 45plus average. But then India won the T20 wc and IPL happened. Murli's priority changed, and ever since then his first class record has gone downhill whilst he earns mega bucks slogging it out for CSK. Expect the likes Yadav and Varun to take it easy once they secure massive 500k contracts in the IPL, which won't be hard considering the lack of decent Indian pace bowlers. i dont think so:giggle:

Don't mean to be a troll but the Aussie Z team that is beating you right now is weaker than the team that just lost to New Zealand B and weaker than the team that got bowled out for less than 50 against RSA. By contrast the minnows we beat in the past few seasons include a full strength Aussie team, full strength England and a full strength Lanka team .. all away from home. BERGKAMP Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 the bcci has already set out on the road to demolish test cricket. the stance against drs when the whole world can see it only benefits the game being the first strong signal that they could really careless about tests. there is not one single player who you can say from the current youngsters that will make 5000 test runs. aus and sa care about it, but not as much as england. in 10 years time i can see international test cricket completely gone, and instead there will be a test cricket franchise league in england over the summer where players from around the world will come and play for a few months. the rest of the time it will be odis and t20s galore. test cricket is too long and slow to keep up with the pace of this modern world , and is in the process of being exterminated.

And I can say for sure that it will decrease at least in India if we continue to perform sh!t as we have been doing recently. Remember the 2007 T20 WC? The popularity of T20 suddenly increased as soon as we won that WC. Even IPL initial success was a lot due to the same. But as we sucked in T20 with time especially in international competition the popularity also decreased. Similarly, the popularity of tests increased suddenly as we performed well and then reached no.1 in tests. But now as we are sucking in tests, I predict the popularity to keep on decreasing with time unless we do something extra ordinary. If both India and England sucked at tests, then probably ICC would have reduced the number of tests with time as viewership and revenue would have decreased. But England is doing OK and so, test format as a whole will stay in the long run but popularity would definitely decrease especially in India unless we become a dominating team in tests. To be honest, cricket ad slot rates are decreasing rapidly for quite sometime from what I have heard and I won't be surprised if ad slots for tests become very low in the long run if our terrible form in away tests continue.
