Nova Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I won't be surprised if there is life out there... in fact it would be disturbing to know that earth is the only planet which can sustain life. Given the vastness of space and its infinite nature, anything is possible. Even if there is intelligent life out there somewhere, we are unlikely to make contact considering that the universe is expanding at a faster rate. Technology might always find itself incapable to cope up with ever increasing distances between galaxies.

Nova Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I find it mind boggling how inanimate atoms and molecules come together to form life..and to top that how we humans are capable of a varied range of emotions. It is these emotions which really give meaning to life as we perceive it. If you take away the ability to interact, then one is just dealing with a vegetable. I hope the aliens out there are capable of such human like emotions...or else it won't be fun for future generations to have sex with a vegetable...you see. In that sense we humans might just be unique in the universe. Carbon based lifeforms... the ability of that carbon atom to develop all kinds of bonds with other atoms is just astounding. No wonder there is so much variety on our planet.

Last time I read something on it, they are still trying to come up with a mathematical proof. I don't know much about it anyway, but biology and life interests me much.

A lot of science and understanding "what is" also depends upon things that go beyond mathematical equations. Current astrophysics and theories about the universe are primarily oriented towards necessitating mathematical proof which I think is kinda limiting

Your logic was using the existence of some higher life form which is directing the evolution of living beings. And as I said, using the logic of vastness of space can be used to prove the existence of Lochness monster or a three dick flamy in some other galaxy. Interesting that you agree with Hawkins on a speculation that no one has any proof of, while at the same time arguing against the evolution mechanism which is widely understood now.
