yeah Laxman the eternal scapegoat, drop him,who cares if he averaged 99 v WI in last series, who cares if he has won no. of matches.who cares if hes youngest of the big 3 n not the one whos dropping dollies Virat Kohli FTWB->
he has average of 20 in his 12overseas innings. Anyone batsman can score runs in test matches at home, so why not give chances to youngsters in those test matches few of them may certainly take the baton ahead.

Hard to disagree with that. Dravid had a superb 2010. Sachin is having a half decent series in Aus. Laxman helped us win matches from losing position in recent times. Kohli is fish out of water. Rohit has to replace him. It all looks so bad because everyone goes through rough patch at the same time.
The thing is we are loosing even with these seniors and if we have to lose why should not we lose with youngsters at least they will gain some experience. These seiors are their because we hope we will win when these guys are playing and our ATG.

Drop all the seniors for all I care and It would be easier to see India lose with youngsters like Rohit, Rahane, Pujara and Kohli in the team. At least we will have hope of a turn-around once the youngsters turn the corner but right now watching the nearly 40 year olds making an inexperienced and far from intimidating Aussie team look like invincibles is pathetic, disheartening and disappointing.

What I would like to see is the seniors continuing for at least 1 year and in the meantime send all the youngsters (Rohit, Kohli, Raina, Pujara, Mukund, Rahane, even Yuvi when he's fit) to A-tours of Aus, Eng, SA and then the seniors can start retiring gradually and their places can be filled by these players who have at least some experience of playing outside the Sub-Continent. Right now what people are asking is - just drop the seniors. Period. Its not going to work like that. Succession plans don't work out unless they are planned well and the replacements are ready to play Test cricket - we have all seen how "ready" the likes of Kohli, Raina, Mukund etc are right now. We cannot throw out the seniors just for the sake of it. For the good of Indian cricket their retirements have to be planned well.

Any dropping of the seniors should be after the present series. Our next test series is only in Oct 2012 (vs NZ) and after that the England series. Try out the youngsters then.
You have rightly said and that makes a sense too. And eventually, Dhoni is not going to drop any seniors right now and they also have that revenge thing in their mind against England tour of India late this year. I think they will play till then for sure whether we like it or not. But, atleast IMO Rohit deserves one test match in Australia. But I Have no idea how to go about it :P

But are we getting or winning anything even with seniors overseas? If we only want to win at home then we can win at home even with youngsters. We had to start succession at least 2 years ago and it is too late to start it now. It is not like we are winning with seniors and it is discouraging and disappointing to see these seniors failing match after match. With youngsters, we will have less hopes and less disappointments.

its not as if he have been failing overseas for years and years with the seniors. Its been in the last 6-7 months that we've failed overseas. Other than that we've done quite well in the last few years

We have given chances to wrong players at no. 6 by now Raina and Yuvraaj who were never going to be good enough as test players. I believe Yuvraj has not performed much worse than Ganguly at 6 apart from his failure in Australia last tour he has done quite well but has been plagued with injuries. We should not expect any miracles from youngsters because even our ATG seniors are not able to do any miracles overseas and at home, we can win even with youngsters. Another thing, we will have less hopes and less expectation with our youngsters and in the end less disappointment even if we lose. I will be happy to lose with youngsters in the team rather than having the best batting line up on paper disappointing every one match after match who are not going to take our cricket anywhere down the line.

For what so that seniors can fill their boot in Indian conditions being embarrassed away from Sub continent? We needed Seniors till now because they were the best option to perform in Australia and England. In India even youngsters are good enough to win tests.Even if they performed tremendously they should have been phased our sooner. But seeing the way they are batting they dont even have a cause to lengthen their careers None of our seniors are going to play any away series now because of their age.So giving youngsters 2 years in test cricket in Sub continent will give them better chance of performing the next time we tour away from home.

+1. Exactly what I wanted to say.

Yeah, we all seen how the youngsters have replaced Ganguly in 3 years (in Indian conditions)

And no one asked the seniors to retire for years and years when they were performing either. Hell no one would be asking them to be dropped if they have age on their side. They are legends yes but even legends should know when to retire. U dont see Warne and Mcgrath exactly hanging on when they knew their time was up despite performing exceptionally still.

What well we have done? Yes we won in England in 2007 but then these players were at their prime and were playing well which is no happening now and all of them are failing. Whatever these guys could have done they have done it all and now losing streak has started again. Once we had thought loss in England was just a one-ff and we thought they will do well in Aus, but was that is not the case. They have not scored a 100 yet in these 2 tests too. We folded for less than 200 in 2 consecutive innings on this tour too.

Dravid has performed extremely well throughout 2011. Laxman failed in the England series and has failed in Aus (around 12 innings total) - I don't see how 12 innings is reason enough to ask someone like Laxman to retire.

Yeah' date=' we all seen how the youngsters have replaced Ganguly in 3 years (in Indian conditions)[/quote'] Yuvraaj has done as good as Ganguly in test apart from Aus tour in 2007. He just has been plagued with injuries. And we are not expecting any miracles from youngster when even our ATG's cannot do any miracle. Remember, we still have not won a series in SA or Aus whole decade with our most ATG playing together. We will be happy losing with youngsters rather than getting disappointments match after match from these ATGs.

The age he is getting in along with consistent failures. They have to go one day and until they go, we do not go forward or bring new players. we are still losing with these ATG and may still lose with youngsters but at least we will not have hopes and once youngsters mature we can certainly see them doing well. Raina did well in WI, Raina did not do well in England but Laxman too did not do well in England, we dropped Raina, but not Laxman why?Double standards.
