How is this best catch? The fielder who dived did not take the catch. It was more like presence of mind. Manish Pandey's catch in Ranji trophy is the most awesome catch by a single fielder I have ever seen. Even the catch by Manoj Tiwary of Pieterson was brilliant. This. Blue-no1 Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Regarding the Kaif-Badani catch-watch in super slow motion: Badani is in a better position to catch the ball He slides and positions himself low, to catch the ball and is in perfect position Kaif is a fraction late but jumps above Badani and catches the ball, and does not even look at Badani. It was an outright selfish act by Kaif as he deliberately jumped over badani to catch the ball, he is aware of Badani in the lower position Disclaimer: I like neither of the two players

Shouldn't the delivery have been declared a 6 right away? If not, suppose Chris Gayle is on strike and a team positions 3 fielders in the stands. Gayle hits a 6, and one of the fielders jumps when catching the ball, throwing it back to the field (before making contact with the ground) where another team mates catches it. Will Gayle be given out? Absurd as the latter case sounds, it isn't very different from what happened here.

The first contact of the fielder and the ball should be when the fielder is grounded within the boundary. Also if the fielder takes a catch airborne, then his previous contact with the ground before taking the catch should be within the boundary. So a fielder cant move beyond the ropes and leap and take a catch and throw it back in to another fielder.
