indiefan
Our athlete Rana Basant Bahadur finished 36th out of 64 participants in the 50 KM walk. He also set a new national record in the process. Although 36th sounds bad' date=' setting a new NR is a wonderful achievement. I didn't even know we had athletes competing in these long distance events![/quote'] I had missed this one. Good achievement by Rana Bahadur :two_thumbs_up:

India-KXIP fan
Next Olympics India should aim for 5 golds total coming from Shooting, Boxing and Wrestling and slowly expand in other events as well. Also T20 cricket should be introduced in 2020 Olympics. I don't think India will become good in Hockey again due to heavy lack of interest (no one plays). India-KXIP fan
as if boxing' date=' wrestling & shooting are[/quote'] Don't know, Indians have good genetics for Hockey. 20 years later it's the same people but losing all the time. Gotta be lack of interest. Or game becoming more faster and requiring more fitness cause of Astroturf. But then India has won once on Astoturf as well. Boxing, wrestling etc are not major sports in any country so not as many people have to play. The system, salary was probably similar 20 years ago. India-KXIP fan
Overall it was dissapointing India finished behind their Beijing but the good thing was they picked more medals. Still dissapointing how so many couldn't go all the way. Next time 3-5 golds should be aim. Gold today was really needed to finish in top 40 now we are 55th

We have doubled medal count from '08..Won 6 medals - we won in one event..which is what we won from 1996 - 2008 in 4 events. This is a giant step for India. Country placements is also done in total medal count these days , not by gold. Look at Yahoo main page., So, India is placed under 40 ..still..
