The Outsider Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Factor in his mediocre captaincy and keeping, and there is a legitimate case to try put alternatives. Anyhow, I've written enough on the topic in the past and am not really inclined to rehash the same points again.
Crookbond Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 thats the way we should see it because thats how we his replacement will be viewed. The problem is people confuse Dhoni's ODI batting with test batting. He averages 33(or 34 i am not certain) away from subcontinent in our last four tours(Nzl SA Eng and Aus). Thats very good for a WK batsman and even more so for a WK from sub continent. To put it into perspective Sangakara only ave. 37 as a WK batsmen. We have to remember that apart from Gilly and Flower every wicket Keeper in recent memory has been a flat track bully. Only Prior has performed better than him as WK batsman in international cricket in recent times. So dont think he deserves to be dropped atleast for the moment. Interesting argument. In any case, I think there's scope of improvement in his batting especially overseas.

I think we are more dependent on him than we think.
Dravid_TheWall Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Steve Waugh as coach, used to be one of my fav players and captain. He is a natural leader and would make a good coach with planning and mental conditioning. He has a good relationship with India (runs a charity) and also will bring out the best in the players. I would choose this team: Gautam Mukund Pujara Tendu Rohit UV/Kohli Dhoni ZK Sree PK Ojha Sree as new Captain in all formats of the game. Dravid and Lax should be told to retire and Viru/Ishant dropped. Viru may make comeback. Yadav and Ashwin to be kept in squad.

BERGKAMP Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 how can you make a guy who has the brain half the size of a common garden pea test captain? :hmmmm:

adi B Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 WHo should be our Captain what should be our line up for our next test series? We play our next test series against Newzealand at home in september. After that we have a big series against England at home.So keeping that in mind what line up and which captain do u prefer for our next series against New zea land? I think its time Dhoni steps down as captain and all our seniors are dropped regardless of their batting from if they refuse to retire. They have embarrassed us enough in test cricket. We need to make drastic changes now to the test team like we did to our ODI team after the 2007 world cup. Gambhir (captain) Rahane Pujara Sehwag Rohit Kohli Dhoni Zaheer Umesh Ashwin Ohja I dont give a damn anymore about how great our seniors were in the past. Its time we look towards the future. good team, at home dhoni is still digestible, but for the long run we need a new young wk
Dravid_TheWall Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 i can understand if you want him on team.. but captain... i understand we are in desperate times but not so despo...:omg::omg: I posted this earlier. Anyway to summarise Sree's captaincy credentials: -Able to motivate players -Able to offer emotional support -Spiritually wise, master of his body and soul, he understands himself so can understand what it takes to help the team and players. -He will be an aggressive Captain like he is an aggressive player. Attacking fields, he will bowl longer spells himself which will help us e.t.c. Terrify opponents. -Has been around long enough and pefect age-28. -Jayawardene said that Sree would have made a good Kochi Tuskers Kerala coach -Prasanth and Gony are two limited bowlers who play for Kerala in ranji. Both took a lot of wickets and said the presence, coaching from Sree was the reason. Santh despite being injured with toe injury would egg on the players from the sidelines. Gauti and Viru are tactically naive and out of form. Dravid, Tendu and Lax have all had a go. Apart from ZK, Sree has no other contender. Kumble was good for us when we had split captaincy. Sree will be better.
The Outsider Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Dravid_TheWall you are in with a good chance to become the first poster on ICF to be banned for being stupid.
Dravid_TheWall Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Bit OTT mate. Nothing wrong with my team selection. I have been saying these things for a while, shame BCCI didn't think likewise!

The Outsider Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 While you're right' date=' I would like to know about replacements for both : captain and WK. I think we are more dependent on him than we think.[/quote'] Saha is someone I would like to be given a run. His keeping is undoubtedly better than Dhoni's and his batting is good enough to score in the subcontinent. Can he translate it to a reasonable performance abroad, who knows? There is also the Punjab keeper, Kaul - I haven't watched him in action but his FC average suggests he can certainly bat in the subcontinent. Don't know about his keeping though. As for captaincy, it's been my position for a long time that after the coach the captain is the most overrated job profile in cricket. Yeah, there are some terrible captains who can really screw things up but by and large the difference between an above average captain and a great captain is a few percentage points, IMO. Those few percentage points might be crucial at times, but at the moment the team is in dire straits and is looking primarily for a personnel improvement rather than a leadership improvement. I don't think Dhoni is a poor captain even after these soon to be 7 straight defeats overseas, but then I didn't think of him as some great captain even after he was at the helm of some famous Indian wins. If you ask me, from a tactical point of view I've found Dravid to be the best Indian captain and from a man management and leadership point of view, Pataudi.

Completely agree with you. Drop all of them. It will give a strong signal and at least we can concentrate on the future rather than worry about a former great's 100th "international" 100 (whatever that means). I am sick to my stomach seeing the same team lose again and again and no lessons are learned. I don't care if a new team loses, but at least we're building towards a future.
BeautifulGame Posted January 13, 2012 Author Posted January 13, 2012 Why would you have sehwag in the team and not tendulkar at that spot. Because Sehwag has 4-5 years of International cricket in him whereas Sachin has at best 1-1 1/2 years in him.Since we need to build a team for the future with our next away tours in mind Sehwag is far more important to India than Sachin.
skindia Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Mukund uthappa( though he is average in domestics..he can be good on bouncy tracks like warner) Pujara manoj tiwari Rohit Sharma Ravindra Jadeja(captain) Uday Kaul/Saha ashwin Rahul sharma varun aron sreesanth balvinder sandhu(junior) Balaji irfan pathan mithun ojha iqbal abdulla
