Virat for Captain!

First things first. I don't think this guy has proven himself on the test arena yet. But he has in ODIs, and definitely does have something special about him. His temperament is still a worry, but there's something remarkably Ganguly-esque about him. And more than anything else, he HATES losing. If he loses he turns into the most obnoxious **** the world has ever seen. He's not bothered about what others think of him as well. He is serious about his cricket too (batting on the day your dad has passed away is no small thing to bluff) To all MS Dhoni fans, I still really like the guy, but I really do feel that he has been exposed in the last 9 months since the World Cup victory. He was riding high as captain with one of the greatest batting line-ups in history (all in form) along with a world class injury free seamer (Zak) and other well performing accompanying bowlers. Without the talent in the team, he's a useless captain to be frank. What is most worrying about him is that he doesn't seem to be bothered about losing! Sure winning isn't everything, but you should at least guarantee your 100% as a team. He is not performing with the bat when it's needed, and wicket keeping is average. I get the impression that selections are also based on personal preference - WTF is R Vinay Kumar doing in a test team! This relaxed atmosphere needs to go. We need someone to regroup the side, like Ganguly did in 2000/2001 when he was first given the captaincy. We need a captain that doesn't succumb to feeble pressure, (reinstating Ian Bell) and doesn't rely on defensive fields. Dhoni's captaincy has shielded him of his mediocre batting and wicketkeeping. It's time he is relieved of his captaincy, and made just a wicket-keeper bat. Virat seems like a good option simply because he has an aggresive attitude and will not take shoddy fielding lightly. You may actually for once see an aggressive, winning is everything, India under him. Not immediately, but sometime in the near distant future. For all of who saying that he can't make the Test XI... Once Sach, Dravid and Lax go, any old dog will be able to make the Indian Test XI. Beggars can't be choosers.

Earn his place in the side? Get off your high-chair, and look around. We have zero test talent out there, he's the least-worst in Test cricket. After the big three he is guaranteed a place.

I'm not sure Virat is ready for the role of Captain just yet. BUT, I believe without question he will be captain of the Indian side at some point in his career.

You know what it is a move that would provoke laods of flak. But somehow I think it would be good move. We had a great team which needed a quiet calm administrator like Dhoni to keep it ticking along. Now that has gone. We need young dynamic guy, who will fire up the team and turn it aggressive unit. No doubt in my mind that he will become test bat. Get him in as cpatain and he will be the new dada. Teams needs a rocket up his **** and he is the type to do it.

I think he will be captain one day but I think the next captain should be Gambhir for the next 4-5 years and then let players like Kohli, Raina, Rohit, Rahane, Pujara, Ashwin, Yadav etc. find their feet in Test cricket. The fact is Kohli has only had 2 away tours. He hasn't even played in all conditions yet. Its a bit too early to gauge whether or not he has even established himself. Make Gambhir the next captain and in 4-5 years, we'll see who the successor will be. In 4-5 years Kohli would be 28 and thats a very good age to take over. He would have matured as a cricketer and a player by then. But who knows, if Raina fixes up his technique and fights his way back, he could take over as captain. Ashwin is a very level-headed big-hearted cricketer, he could also take over. So could Rahane. My point is, out of the current players, Gambhir is the only candidate at the right age, established and suitable to take the reins for the next 4-5 years. After that the next captain will present himself.

 What has he ever done in test matches ? He was just considered a potentially good batsmen and all he has done is show promise. At least Raina made runs in tests in Indian conditions and West Indies which Kohli has not done. He looked pathetic against short pitch bowling from Fidel and Rampaul and hasnt looked better in Australia. Actually, I dont know what he has done to warrant a test place ahead of Raina and Sharma. He is good in ODIs and in sub continent wickets but looks useless outside. Also his temperament is crap and he loses his mind over nothing. Definitely not captaincy material.

He's a Future Captain. No doubt about it. I've been suggesting for a while that India can do a South Africa and hand the reins to a young Kohli post this series.

We could do a graeme smith.. make youngsters be aware that there are spots up for grab in the test team.. honestly after today's abject failure i dont want to see either sachin in the team.. he might be in form... but when he cannot do the lara'esque innings once in 6 tests he gotta go.. we can do with some youngsters.. they will also lose and prolly make lesser runs.. but will get wiser with experience.. imagine if sachin had not got his chance when he was 16 and waited till 26 or 27.. i am sure sachin is blocking such a talent.. enough said about love of game.. if he can guarantee to play for the next 4 years we can keep him.. if its for next one year.. nah i want him to call it a day soon...
