He has just been appointed Head Coach of the Dhaka Gladiators team in the new BPL competition http://www.facebook.com/Gladiators.Dhaka Do you think the BCCI has a short list of world class contenders or do you think they will just go for the same old standard names like Prasad, de Villiers or TA Sekar?

Fully developing talent is what a great coach can do. That means understanding how to educate. Wasim Akram doesn't strike me as a great educator or a developer of talent, but more an Icon who has much experience as a player and can share tips if our own bowlers don't know (I am sure Zaheer Khan does know and already does this for our bowlers). There are only a few great fast bowling coaches (best two Troy Cooley and Ian Pont) and most decent ones are not great ex-players

Call him a tip man or a coach..he infact took up the role of ESPN commentator to coach the Indian team bowlers. His country would not have taken him being the coach of India. BCCI did offer him. You also see what Mcdermott has done to these Australian bowlers. Point I am making is that we should not kick off a person as coach because he was a great players. Great players can be coaches too

NeutralCat Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 It's about fitness and stamina, NZ, Australia, England, SA are all super fit teams, we on the other hand are fat, lazy and couldn't care less about fitness. Have a look at our team in the field or when we are bowling, we look like old women, who can't be bothered. We need to change the whole culture of Indian sports in general, not just cricket, but with the great corrupt BCCI in control nothing will change.

He is not a proven coach in any way. I think this is exactly the problem us Indians have. People confuse playing ability with coaching ability and want players to be coaches when they just cannot coach or have a genuine coaching record.

Ability and reputation does matter,If you have a guy who has not even played international cricket how do you expect him to have the confidence to tell to do that,most would not heed to advice particularly in india,Lets take ishant sharma for example when venky was coach ,He improved his seam position dramatically and even taught him to bowl the slower off cutter,Veny knew this because he had the ability to bowl it himself.

You need to earn that respect as a coach. If you are a good coach, you will do that even if you haven't been a successful player.

ChanaLal Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Well let's put it this way.. the Indian phasst bowlers have never really done the job so it shows no coach has made a difference. MRF and Dennis Lillee, TA Sekar and all the others who have been making a living off of India, don't produce world class fast bowlers. We gotta stop this thought process about ex-players and find a development coach who can CREATE pace bowlers.

I mean i have heard his 3-4 interviews here and there and the common thing that I heard is "Pace is not important, Swing should be given more priority over pace." From outside, we believe that he is a pace fanatic and will encourage out and out fast bowlers, but that is not the case. Venkatesh Prasad is a sorry person. I was shocked when I heard the news that he stops his team-mates to take tips from old bowling legends like Wasim Akram. I've never heard Sekar tell that. He has always emphasized on pace. He says those who have the pace should bowl quick and not aim to bowl slow. Those like Irfan Pathan who don't have the tear away pace like Umesh Yadav or someone, should work on what he is good at. I feel Sekhar is the best man for this job
