Cricket Tragic
It was almost over for him if didn't perform here. Even though he wasn't doing really bad before that too. But he batted well in this series. Bailed Aussies out from a critical position at MCG. Good fielder as well ' date= not a miserable liability. To take his place one will have to work hard. Failed vs SA and NZ. And it wasn't an average of 35 but 7 or 8 and 15. Before the Ashes, he failed in India, England and NZ. He could have been dropped during any of these phases but they stuck with him. Link to comment

They are still holding on Hussey because they do not want a complete rookies bating order aside Clark. While we have 5 experienced batsmen if 2 of them Laxman and Dravid go we will still have 3 exp batsmen in Viru, Gambo and SRT like Australia have in Clark, Ponting, and Hussey and likes of Kohli and Rohit too can score runs at home. They both had 100s in warm games against Australian side in 2008. Link to comment
yoda
desi retirement plan agents - learn something from this. Gilly, Mcgrath, Warne say Hi. Barring Kumble and to a certain extent Srinath, Indian players seem to like getting pushed out rather than go out gracefully. Link to comment

He still has a few years left in him, while Gambhir too has been out form but he has time to rectify his mistakes while VVS Laxman is already on that stage where even his good innings are not going to help Indian team in future. Look, I am not sure if any of these three ATGs will last for our next overseas tour and if they are not then why not we should include likes Rohit and Pujara and I am confident they can too do well on Indian pitches. Regarding Gambhir and Sehwag, we can see them in our next series to NZ how they perform. They have done well in the past and their is not reason they cannot come back as age is still on their side and can easily play for 3, 5 years, respectively. Problem is if we will not blood younger batsmen now, then I fear we may see a complete rookie side in SA in late 2013. It is not like Sehwag and Gambhir has a permanent place but they need to be pushed too if they do not get their act right in first 2 tests against NZ. Still, I am completely sure that noting like this is going to happen. BCCI and selectors have learned to absorb shocks and surprises. That time has gone where we used to see drastic changes in our team in late 90s and early to mid 2000s when we used to lose and this time we have been tormented. Remember how Azhar lost captaincy, SRT gave up captaincy, Ganguly lost captaincy and teams were changed that sure is not going happen even after this humiliation. They still believe this is our best team but are forgetting that best does not always stay best. There is a time when everyone loses the touch. They also need to add that it was our oldest team as well who once under the pump do not like to tun on the field. Captain does not care who is bowling and where he is bowling. Link to comment

achilles
We need to give chances to youngsters. Look at the likes of Pattinson. Ordinary bowlers who looked extraordinary against batsmen who've collectively got an excess of 20,000 runs between them. The problem in India is no one wants to let his spot go. Dhoni will keep complaining about fatigue and too much cricket. But then he'll go ahead and play Tests, ODIs, T20s, IPL and CL. Might as well yield the gloves to train a young kid? But no, the young kid will find his way only through a ban for the skipper. Sachin is pretty much caught up with his 100th 100 and then will hopefully retire. Dravid seems to be the only batsman in team who is trying his best and fighting it out like Sachin. VVS batted poorly in England, smashed WI on the "roads" called as Indian wickets to "earn" his place again, only to get jacked the way he has. Zaheer, the only thing he can seemingly run is his mouth. Sehwag is not going anywhere and must up his game. Gambhir, how about having a stern word with him and telling him "perform or perish"? Truth is, we Indians are a bunch of spineless egoists. We think just because we scored a 100 a year back, it our right to be persisted with. We have a lot to learn from the Aussies who have dropped the following legends when they failed to deliver- 1. Steve Waugh 2. Mark Taylor 3. Simon Katich What have we done to bring our juniors in? What right do we have to point fingers at the likes of Mukund, Rahane and Kohli when they haven't even got 1/3 of the run VVS has got before becoming a regular? We are so caught up in the economics of the game that the world is laughing at us. And we deserve the stick. Around the world, no one is bigger than the team. In India, no one is bigger than his worth in terms of money. Link to comment
saneindian
Waugh averaged 80 in the final 12 months of his career, Taylor was aound 60+ in the last 12 months and Katich was 50+ in the last 12 months Link to comment

Likes of Pattinson and Cummins have barely played many FC games, both did not have a single FC 5-fer before they made their test debuts and were purely picked based on talent, promise, and potential of pace. McDermott worked with Pattinson when he was sitting out on SL tour and after that as well and had a lot of methodical practice. Coaches work is to let bowlers work hard in nets on their lengths and lines, and not just giving some tips in a meeting room. The same McDermott has done with their bowlers. Coming in the nets and bowling to a batsman aimlessly not real practice unless and until bowlers makes a goal for himself. Their must be some motive behind every net session as what you want to do in the nets and n which aspect of bowling you want to work or which length and line you want to work on to getter better.
