NeutralCat Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 How do you guys see our relationship with Israel? Are you guys happy with it? Could we do more for it? Or do you guys don't want to see this happening? Israel-India have always been close even when we did not recognize them as a nation. How do you guys feel about this relationship?
chainsmoker1985 Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 India's recent stand on Palestine baffled me when PM Manmohan Singh said that we are in favor of Palestine's independence. Can someone explain me about that?

Mariyam Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 they lose the muslim vote if he doesn't declare support for that terror infested sh!thole. Get real. Not denying that Palestine may have a lot of emotive value for some Indian Muslims, but its a non factor when it comes to voting.

NeutralCat Posted January 25, 2012 Author Posted January 25, 2012 But I have heard stories of Indian's who travel to Israel and they have said they were blown away by how friendly the people were towards them, they were welcomed like brothers and sisters . People would approach them and ask if they were from India and always praised India and hold India in high regard. Why does India always back the Arab's against Israel?
EnterTheVoid Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 If you get an Israeli stamp on your passport, you probably will have a tough time entering into some Muslim countries. Heck, Malaysia doesn't even allow Israeli passport holders to enter inside. Pretty poor considering Malaysia is one of the so called "progressive" Islamic countries.
Clarke Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Why does India always back the Arab's against Israel? The 'backing' is only to a limit that it does not damage Israel's strategic position in the middle east and helps us keep our relations with the oil rich Arab states. Right wing wannabe bravados forget how important those nations are to our economy. We export more to the UAE than any other country in the world and get a lot of our oil from the Saudis. Our diaspora is an incredible asset and its not too difficult for those nations to limit ties with a particular country if they deem necessary. If India were to be a security council permanent member sometime in the future, i bet we wouldn't veto any resolution against Israel. USA will always do that, we can step aside and show our solidarity to the Palestinians and provide whatever aid we can.

People would approach them and ask if they were from India and always praised India and hold India in high regard. Why does India always back the Arab's against Israel? Yes, that's the point. Israel has been very very important to building India's defense structure. In fact, Israel is the highest exporter of arms to India. We have to look at the over-all picture rather than just looking at it from religion point of view. When we are dealing with international issues, we should just keep religion factor out of our mind, doesn't matter if its hinduism or any other religion. I really don't want to hurt anyone's feelings regarding religion, I am sorry if I ever do, but I am just being realistic and practical
hari504504 Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 India has had a similar historically close relationship with Iran . Not all muslim countries are our enemies bro.. Saddam has backed us in the Kashmir issue, so have the Iranians. Diplomacy is way more complex a game than to support a person of benefit to us - outright in every issue. A nation doesn't simply make enemies just like that. India has played a brilliant diplomatic game so far.. we are friends with Israel.. we are friends with Palestine, friends with Iran and friends with Afghanistan. At the end of the day - it is this status of relations that gives us the most benefit as a country.

NeutralCat Posted January 25, 2012 Author Posted January 25, 2012 Yes India has played a good game with the foreign policy, but on the other hand most of it has been accidental, we someone managed to stumble into something good. I for one admire and respect Israel, they are surround by nations of religious zealots, who would like nothing more than to wipe them out and have still managed to survive. I like their attitude if you hurt one of ours then we are coming for you no matter what, pity our country is not like this, I guess it happens when you play vote bank politics. The funny thing is that it was the BJP who moved us closer to the USA and Israel.
arun81 Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 During Kargil, It was Israel that stood with India supplying some of the key tracking bombs..not the Sauds, Not the Iranians.... If and one for all Israel is taken care of by the Arabs, India(Hindus) are next http://ibnlive.in.com/news/how-israel-helped-india-win-the-kargil-war/45840-2.html
KhanSaab Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 India's support of Palestinian independence is not something new. India's stance has not changed since 1947. This support stems from India's own fight for independence and its belief that every country should be ruled by its own people. And Palestinian independence is supported by most countries including Israel itself. The problem is not a Palestinian state, the problem is how to draw that border.

A war is not won with weapons alone... the economy should be able to sustain a war when sanctions take effect, India only has reserves of one week worth of oil - without external help we will crumble. We need to have strong friends in the middle east.. Israel alone backing us won't take us too far..and infact strengthens the stereotype the extremsists are trying to use to portray India and the US .

Vijay.Sharma Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I do not have a solid opinion either way about India's friendship with Israel. But I do hope that our government's (and fellow citizens') reasons for befriending Israel does not have anything to do with the enmity between Israrel and the Islamic Umma. Our foreign policy must always be directed based on what would be beneficial for us than what would be harmful for our enemy (Pakistan). @Mariyam, a question to you since you would be the right person to answer it - do you think for the larger Muslim population of India (not the urban educated elite Muslims but the not so educated ones) it is an emotional requirement that the party they vote for must be pro-Islamic issues around the world. For ex - support Palestine, support Muslims in the Chechen slaughter, support Muslims being targeted in Europe, etc?
hari504504 Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Our foreign policy must always be directed based on what would be beneficial for us than what would be harmful for our enemy (Pakistan). Pakistan shouldn't really be in the equation all that much now. It is in uncle sam's interest to reign Pak in. India should be looking east I believe, a vastly superior force is building up its military and economic might.

If we are kissing Arab ass for oil, Then its high time we develop alternate fuel arrangement. Wahabism is added for free with the oil and we see the afteraffects now in Kerala....
