Pagalpanti Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Which Indian cricketers have retired when they were doing well? - Gavaskar - Kumble And then the following went out when they were decently ok: - Ganguly - Srinath Any others? Kumble? He was forced out of team mid-way during the BG Series. He averaged almost 100 during that series.
kabira Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Nobody wants to go out when they are on top of their game. When you love something you don't want to lose it, not when you are contributing. Fact remains VVS and Sachin were in prime form in SA last year...Dravid was only struggling but he had great England tour. We have tried Raina, Yuvaj and they have been not so good. Virat has just found his feet in test cricket, but still has long way to go.
NeutralCat Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Shitwag Dhobi Gautia VVS Dravid Ishat Goodbye the lot of you piss off and stop ****ing up Indian cricket even more than it already is.
kabira Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Why do teams lose heavily...it happens when majority of them are out of form. Same thing with Aussies last year. Only Watson and Hussey were scoring...no one was bowling well. they lost badly,, 3 innings defeat we have same thing here...Sehwag, Gambhir, VVS, Dravid, to some extent SRT are out of form...
Karan114 Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 And by the way India has a **** record away from home, we have won the odd game here and there overseas but we were never rated away from home. So a fat lot of good all these "legends" did for us. OK, this is an absolute pile of ****. Please look up Adelaide 2003, Perth 2008, Headingley 2002, Johannesburg 2006, Trent Bridge 2007, Durban 2010, Jamaica 2006 amongst others before spouting such nonsense. These guys have gone on too long (they are not the first or last elite sportsmen to make that mistake, and this is why we need a stronger selection panel) but to rubbish their achievements like this is absolutely pathetic.

Only Watson and Hussey were scoring...no one was bowling well. they lost badly,, 3 innings defeat we have same thing here...Sehwag, Gambhir, VVS, Dravid, to some extent SRT are out of form... Off the mark in the main part regarding Australia... last year we were just starting to develop a side after a period in the wilderness following mass retirements all at once (sound familiar)... Aussie players were learning and were burnt on previous series floggings or results i.e. all our bowlers were injured or injury prone (lack of fitness and training), the side had little or no focus, direction or planning (coaches gone) and confidence was low. Move ahead 12 months... team is still building, newer guys coming in but the keys... focused on fitness and consistency in the field, with the bat and with the ball... does it or has it worked all the time - of course not, look at the 45 in SA.... with the new coach came a definative plan, trust in the unit and confidence on the back of some improved performances... Siddle bowling a better line and length (coaches told him to pitch it up a yard on last year).... Harris is now fitter and lasts without injury...... Hilfy has picked up 10k speed on last year and is now consisten because his speed and line means he is not trying to do things to find wickets... I am sure the simple answer as you have provided is one way of looing at it, but unfortuantely it is inaccurate
Sachinism Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I agree man, its a shame for about 2-3 years, everyone was talking about how devastating it would be when these guys leave and now people can't wait to get rid of them, on top of that, piling on a ton of abuse. Fickle fans, heat of the moment stuff Whats this myth about Kumble doing well? He was doing pretty poorly. There was a big difference when Dhoni was captain and he was, he himself could see, he wasn't really needed, as he wasn't that effective with the ball either and made the right move and retired himself. Others probably feel they have something left in them, but need to understand what is best for the team and if them playing another series will be of any benefit to the side. They've had time and their chance to groom young talent, if they haven't done that, that's their problem.
FreakazoiD Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 These guys have done well for the country for more than a decade. Yes they did not know when to go out, that doesn't mean we keep piling the abuse. Show some respect to them legends! We showed them respect when they deserved it. They deserve absolutely no respect for the humiliation they have piled upon India as a cricketing nation. As retired cricketers, I will respect them for their past achievements. As ageing cricketers, greedy to hold on to their spots purely on the basis of decade old performances, I will not.
NareshK Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 And by the way India has a **** record away from home, we have won the odd game here and there overseas but we were never rated away from home. So a fat lot of good all these "legends" did for us. Absolute rubbish. Check the record of Indian team in tests abroad from 2000 and Indian teams before that. It will be chalk and cheese. In fact, nobody used to bother when India played tests abroad in the 90s because most people were used to them losing and not putting up a fight. It was only after the emergence of Sachin, Dravid, VVS, Sehwag and Kumble that they started winning and drawing tests abroad consistently.

Disagree, India started to win abroad after Ganguly took over as a captain. I agree its a collective effort, but Ganguly was very keen to win abroad.

Like I said winning one odd game away from India is no big deal, we were a disgrace for a batting line up packed with these "legends" yet we did nothing. 8 - 0 Away from the **** roads in India proves the point, sorry if you can't see that, but some Indian fans have their heads buried too deep in the sand . Like I said we live on past glories and cling on to them, just like VSS, Dravid etc are doing now, I used to respect these guys, especially VVS. But if he had any sort of character he would have stepped aside after the England tour. But as is typical of Indian greats they cling on until the point of embarrassment as is happening now. Indian selectors are to blame as well, bunch of fools leading a team of fools, and we fans don't even hold them accountable, we just love to shout from the roof tops how great we are when we win at home. We even played crap against the WI at home and if the WI weren't so bad they would have drawn that series 1 - 1, but anyway lets just continue the way we are, the IPL is here and I am sure all will be forgive and forgotten, that is what we Indian fans are best at.
Sid Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 India started to lose abroad after Ganguly took over as a commentator.I agree its a collective failure, but Ganguly was very keen to jinx . On topic,I will always respect the legends, they have been the architects of so many of our famous victories but what saddens me is that they have given this oppurtunity to many to ridicule or abuse them.I always wanted these legends who were part and responsible(with few others) for greatest era of India cricket to go on a high but instead they now will retire(or forced to) when Indian cricket is at its lowest point.Just sad..........

It was only after the emergence of Sachin, Dravid, VVS, Sehwag and Kumble that they started winning and drawing tests abroad consistently. This current performance is by far worse than anything in the 90s. Don't think we lost 8 on the trot, 5 of them by innings, in any period in history including the 90s. So for all the good work done in the last 10 years, this has more than erased all of it. We lost 8 tests overseas in 2 series, we haven't won 8 tests in SA, Aus, Eng over the last 3 decades combined. And we will not win 8 tests in these countries over the next 3 decades either.
Brainfade Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Well, they have been duly compensated for their services. Not to mention the adulation & idolization (and I am guilty of doing it as much as anyone else), and the endorsement deals that have followed. This is the nature of stardom - they have handled the highs, can they handle the lows? And when you really think about it, how have they *served* the country? They have provided entertainment with their sublime skills and hard work. They haven't strapped on a helmet and boots, and braved artillery shells across the LoC.
EnterTheVoid Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Nah, "braving" bouncers at Perth was brave enough :hysterical:
Aussie-r-best Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 u guys still have big big holes in batting and even bowling (1 or 2 things but its all set world class attack) look at htis series if i was aussie fan i would be dissapointed cos again only ponting, hussey, clarke did the most scoring warner too is inconsistent can win u matches on his day though so again less then hundred score againt good teams is not out of question new guys khwaja, marsh failed badly.. u need to find good batsmen quickly...any info abt good taleted youngsters coming up ? I agree, with you and have said that we are emerging not developed.... Yes ponting and co are the dominant ones, but they are also class and in order for youngsters to follow leaders need to lead and show by example.... I am not sure about warner in the test format, one hit in the series does not give hima spot..... Cowan is new and will be ok in my view, 50-50 in this series for mine got a few 50s and a coupe of fails but he is new and I am prepared to give him a go... I don't know any aussie on here that supported Marsh in the side from before test 1.... and Haddin, well Haddin has to go... IMO we need an opener - Watson is proven here and will go ok or can bat at 6-7 if needed.... There are a number of others in the wings that should be given a run... Hussey's brother David is a gun but can't get a gig.... Birt is a prospect in my view for No.3 is young and super prospect - he is in the ODI squad I think.... Christian always should have been picked ahead of Marsh and is a super prospect.... There a couple of others but I would have those 4 floating around... Bowling I am less worried about... The imporvement in Hilfy and Siddle over the last 12 months is great and reports are there is more to go... Harris is good and Watson is to come back... Starc, Pattison, Coulter Nile, and Cummins mean I have no issue with that aspect of our bowling.... We still need a good spinner but if we follow Englands lead, we should go to India or Pak and have someone move here (lol)... I am not sure we are there though really... Lyon wont do much in SC IMO and others are not up to it...
