In fact there would be many more than just those 4 events during that period. I am not saying Hemu was the best of the lot or anything like that. Given that the author had chosen Hemu I was just reminiscing my studies about him and observed that he coulda made a difference. Nothing to say whether others coulda or woulda made it.

In fact I read some comments in his blog from others who made the exact same points as you did. And he replied to them saying that the "what-ifs" were totally imaginary and basically wishful thinking and also provided fodder to make the post interesting. I agree with Tiger's point about Genghis Khan's (in)ability to destroy India. But on the Hemu part I think that was a real big event. Hemu's tragedy was a real game changer. Unlike the Rajput rulers who allowed the Islamic jehadis to set up tents in India, Hemu was capable of setting up a Harshavardhana-esque empire I agree with that. Despite all bravery tales of Rajput's they didn't do anything to make significant change in course of Indian history. There was a never a thing like Rajout empire or even a semblance of that. I think they lacked vision and were happy to be lords of their fiefdoms.

He massacred millions irrespective of their religious back ground. I recently overheard a conversation between my dad and one of our workers. The worker had just had a son, and decided to name the kid Taimur. When my dad asked him why he chose that particular name, the worker said because its the name of a famous Islamic warrior. My dad said that Taimur and his grandfather Genghis Khan destroyed more Islamic countries/empires killing more Muslims (Indians included) than any other person in history. I haven't read up much on history of either of the two gents, and my dad has this habit of bluffing about even the most sacrosanct of topics, but here I think he was being serious. Naming the kid Taimur made as much sense as an Iraqi/Afghan naming their new born as Bush. IMO, Taimur was the proto Dark Knight. Since this is thread on history fun history, here's the reason why: I was Maryam till my 10th. I'd gotten a 48/100 in my Maths prelims, in spite of additional tuition. My mom, for reasons I still haven't been able to comprehend used to think that I should at least get an 80. Secretly, she visited a famous numerologist, one of the better ones in India, and sought his help. He suggested that I add an 'I' in my name. And voila, I scored an 84 in the board exams!!!! And trust me, its all due to the change of name. My maths skills were/are just as bad as ever.

WTH? :whack: :mad: Its a 100% true story. In fact, this numerologist uses my example (among many others) when he talks about his success stories. He also helps politicians and actors and corporate bosses. Numerology and Astrology are sciences, btw.
