And it isn't like the Ministers were watching a porn movie as an event in itself. How many of you get MMS sent to your cell phones of such stuff? Almost everyone. Have you ever thought that the Ministers also got it like you guys get them in your cellphones and watched it? When you get an MMS in your office and you open it and watch it - its just the same thing that has happened with the Ministers...just that their office is not in a cubicle or a cabin but the Assembly. Its not like they opened their zips and started shagging. And what is this Saurav guy going on about regressive country and all? Everyone watches porn and if porn was such a no no in our country you wouldnt have had half the Mallu film industry, you wouldnt have had designated red light areas in many cities. I mean get real. When asked, he said that that there was no pressure on him or his colleagues to resign. "I have committed no illegality and hence we will continue as members of the house. Enough of the moral posturing Let me finish this argument fatafat: a) When I say 'regressive country', I mean the regressive mentality of creating such a loud hue and cry about this event. The huge pretentious hue and cry is regressive, and the inability to accept that watching, reading, discussing pornography has become part of our lives. And since watching pornography in one's own privacy is not even illegal, it simply means that the legal and the ethical authorities in the country do not have much issue about it. b) My second point is about the inappropriateness of the activity in this specific case. Watching pornography in a public space is illegal (so if you are doing it in your office it's not a good thing you are doing), and therefore police can arrest people waching pornography in cyber cafes. And these ministers represent a political party and their constituencies and have a responsibility of being morally and politically correct. They are supposed to conduct themselves with dignity in the Assembly (that's why people dress appropriately when they enter that space keeping certain norms in mind and don't saunter in wearing banians and bermudas), and engage in fruitful discussions and mind their business appropriately. Treating the Assembly as a college canteen is sacrilege, and that is why these guys have been first-rate morons to do what they have done in a country which has double standards regarding sex anyway. Also, you should not forget that one of these ministers himself gave lectures a month back as to how women should dress appropriately to protect themselves and not complain if they are sexually harassed because of the way they dress up. All coming from a party that endorses a stance of beating up women who visit pubs. So, it's not such a simple matter when you consider all these factors. Samjhe? P.S.
