KOLKATA: Bengal hopes to give its image a zing by making Shah Rukh Khan the state's brand ambassador. Call it Bengal's answer to Gujarat that has roped in Amitabh Bachchan. There was a buzz around the brand Badshah ever since CM Mamata Banerjee invited him to inaugurate the Kolkata Film Festival last November. On Monday, the CM officially announced that Shah Rukh was going to be the face of Bengal. An official at the CM's office said the preliminary discussions had been held during King Khan's visit to film festival. "Didi was keen to have Shah Rukh Khan as Bengal's brand ambassador and he had said 'yes' right then. He sent his written acceptance today, so it's official now," he said. There is a lot of expectation from Shah Rukh - hope that Bengal can cash in on the star's worldwide popularity. As the owner of the Kolkata Knightriders IPL team, he has a huge fan base in the state. And it also helps that he has reputation of a thorough professional and a workaholic. In his letter to the CM, Shah Rukh has said that he considers Bengal his second home and is delighted to be the face of the state. He will be seen in advertisements and events related to tourism, sports and other activities, just as Bachchan is doing for Gujarat, say sources.

Another interesting news somewhat related to the same that I saw just now.

NEW DELHI: Pernod Ricard India on Friday said it has signed Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan as the brand ambassador for its brand, Royal Stag. "In a big development, two iconic brands in their own respective spheres, Shahrukh Khan and Seagram's Royal Stag, have come together in an association that will make it large," Pernod Ricard India said in a statement. Shahrukh will work in tandem with his fellow Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, who has been its brand ambassador for the last several years, the statement said. The company said Khan has been roped in for one year but did not provide financial details of the agreement. Speaking on the association Pernod Ricard India Vice- President Marketing Bikram Basu said: "Shahrukh Khan dared to dream and achieve. Dream big, and achieve really big. We have great common ground with Royal Stag and him in 'making it large'". "The Royal Stag make it large story is insightful and inspirational. I am sure, together we will make it large," Shahrukh Khan said. Headquartered in Paris, Groupe Pernod Ricard owns several brands, including Absolut Vodka, Chivas Regal and Jacobs Creek Wine. In India the company sells various brands, including 100 Pipers, Blenders Pride and Royal Stag.

Perhaps this is to compete with the Dhoni ads of Mallya. But would it mean dropping of some of the older Royal Stag ad guys such as Bhajji etc. whose brand value have reduced in recent times.

As administrator Didi >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Modi As ambassor Gay Khan >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Bchchaa Teli
Not sure how you came out with that conclusion. I don't see any highlights in Didi's career except for her regional aspirations that makes her a better administrator. In fact, I hate her double standards. N Modi on the other hand has achieved a lot in administration except for communal problems in the early 2000s. I have been always more of an Aamir fan rather than SRK or Big B but I don't see how one is better than the other. Both are as good in terms of brand marketing IMO. SRK has a bigger following in India and overseas and that might give him a mild advantage. Otherwise there is not much difference and both are completely different personalities.
