Handling of Umesh Yadav: perspective Dhoni and Sehwag.

We have seen Umesh Yadav bowling in the captaincy of both. while Sehwag used him as a strike bowler against WI giving new ball and did bowl well flat pitches in India, got wickets up front and most importantly got dangerous swing with the new ball in series against WI. While Dhoni brings him with older ball and today it was ridiculous to see him bowl in 23rd over. He is your fastest bowler, a strike bowler. If he was playing for Australia, i dont see him coming to bowl in 23rd over. I really do not understand the tactics. Is this actually a tactic or different perspective from different captains.

we should never go with 4 fast bowlers. period. umesh is better first change bowler to me. other "slower" faster bowler like pk, khan ,vinay and irfan can better utilize the new ball. if another faster bowler like aron was in team then only he should open .

Dhoni style is to contain ,He wants to have control over the game so so called line and length bowlers get preference,Shewag captaincy was breath of fresh air in odis ,he attacked and got teams allout.

A captain cannot be too aggressive or too defensive. There needs to be a balance between both. But both Dhoni and Sehwag are extremes, one in defensive captaincy and one overdo the aggressive approach.

Agree. Yadav was brought into the attack like he is a part timer. The guy was giving his all bowling 150K and he was brought in 23rd over. It shows the faith captain has in his bowler and he bowled in good direction at the start.

Add to that umesh is an outswing bowler with new ball he is twice as dangerous than zak,v.k,i.p .No wonder our bowlers concentrate on line and length than pace as captains like dhoni prefer trundlers who can maintain line and length even though actually they still get hammered.

Yes that is my point as we saw it in the series against WI when he was given new ball and he looked a strike bowler with the swing he got in all 3 matches and at pace.

While Yadav looked very much a strike weapon against WI when he bowled with new ball and swung the ball too. Here, he has been treated none better than a part timer.

As bad as the decision of MSD to bowl Umesh in the 23rd over is, in the earlier matches Umesh bowled with a 5-6 overs old ball and could not swing it at all, has shown a lack of control with the white kookaburra so far and is struggling to find length to bowl at in the ODIs.

Irrespective of how good or bad Umesh Yadav is, its no way to treat a fast bowler by bowling him in 23rd over. Dhoni Chew** treats every game as hit and giggle IPL game..

Here' date=' he has been treated none better than a part timer.[/quote'] Used as a part timer? He has struggled when bowling with a newish kookaburra, so maybe the ploy was to use him in the middle and the death overs with the slightly older ball. Unfortunately he did not look in any rhythm at all and hence did not finish his quota of overs. I am happy to see that Umesh is still been encouraged to go out there and bowl at full tilt

He played 2 matches before and bowled decently well in both matches, took 2 wickets at Adelaide and think, no bowler could swing the ball at Adelaide, the best batting track in Australia. He bowled with Kookabura even in ODIs against WI and he is an aggressive bowler, give him new ball, he may go for runs but he will give you wickets as well and Kookabura swings only for first few overs. Today too he was not given ball while he could have done better than Vinay and Irfan in the last 2-3 overs, remember Vinay was fro 4 consecutive fours helplessly by Christian. While no batsman could hit Yadav freely, most times he went for 4 when he strayed in line.

BTW not too along Sehwag was the punching bag for not giving enough opportunities to Umesh and Aaron in the IPL as DD captain, suddenly he's become the savior of fast bowlers in India.
