I wouldn't have been able to recall his name. Haven't watched him live, but Eknath Solkar was also renowned for his fielding skills.
akshayxyz Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Trivia on Solkar. The interesting thing about his nearly 2 catches per match average is that he rarely fielded in the slips or in the gully, unlike the other fielders who have ratios above 1.5 catches per match http://www.cricketnetwork.co.uk/main/s119/st13299.php
Sidhoni Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Good call. I wouldn't have been able to recall his name. Haven't watched him live, but Eknath Solkar was also renowned for his fielding skills. I was also thinking of adding Solkar to my list, but OP says "ODI" fielders. Well, a fielder is a fielder, the change of format does not mean much to fielders except when it is T20 or last few overs of ODI's.But still, Solkar was a great Test close-in fielder, so he does not fit in the Top 15 ODI fielders.
SachDan Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Sharma ji you missed Roger Harper, easily among the top ten fielders of all time.
akshayxyz Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 hmm, just realized the topic is about ODI fielders... You may drop "Solkar".
Sooda Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Greg Chappel is one of the finest slip catchers
Ultimate_Game Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Some of the guys not mentioned... I am going with the best fielders regardless of odis. Colin Bland - Read some books on cricket and he was considered by far the best fielder. There's one description I recall having read about him "sometimed he used to stand a bit deep at point or covers and let the batsmen take singles, and then he would creep up and suddenly swoop on the ball when the batsmen were goin for another single and run the batsman out" Allan Border - The guy used to be amazing at mid-wicket and generally hit the wkts more often than not. Martin Guptill - The guy is simply amazing and probably would trump Jonty. Pollard - He's a terrific athlete and his fielding is much much better than his bowling or batting. Chris Harris - NZ guy who would field anything and everyting hit towards him.
Square Drive Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Same theme - top 15 ATG fielders My picks (again, no particular order) - Ricky Pawning, Azza, Jonty, Gus Logie, Gibbs, Symonds, Collingwood, Mohd Kaif, Robin Singh, Clarke, Mark Waugh, AB DeVilliers, Bevan, Raina, Nathan Astle Honorary mention - Ajay Jadeja, Yuvraj, Russell Arnold, Murali, and I am forgetting some NZ fellas in no particular order- Yuvraj, Raina, Kaif, Punter, Collingwood, Rhodes, Dilshan, DeVilliers, Azhar, Gibbs, Symonds, Jayasuriya, L Vincent, M Waugh, Clarke Few strange picks.. :hysterical: Murali - very committed and honest trier in the field until he had his shoulder injury, have taken some brilliance catches. Overall very good fielder in his younger days. But a level below from top SL fielders. Jayasuriya - same as Mulrali, and a bit more athletic in ground fielding. Arnold - :phehehe: From Sri Lanka, Dilshan and Roshan Mahanama comes first before anyone else. Next level - Upul Chandana, Ruwan Kalpage (current SL fielding coach), Hashan Thilakarathne and Kapugedera And maybe few other past players. Anyway it's a tough task to pick 15 players like that.. :asleep:
Khalpat Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Talking about Gus Logie, I dont know how many of you know that he was also the first cricket player and I guess the only, who got Man of Match for Fielding in the match against Pakistan at Sharjah on 28-11-1986.He did not bat, did not bowl then also got MoM. :hatsoff: knuR4X8CYtk
