Actually I think everyone who got a chance to bat stepped up including the walking wicket otherwise known as Virendra Sehwag. Check this out: Name Runs Strike Rate Viru 30 187 Sachin 39 130 Gambhir 63 98 Virat 133 155 Raina 40 167 Of course Virat's was the most influential innings but every other batsman played a part and that is why it wouldn't rank above the previous ones I mentioned. In chronological order 175 by Kapsy (the first one man show in ODI history (Qualification - ton) 189 by Viv with a last wicket partnership 100+ by Miandad when the match was all but lost 143 by Sachin (along with Kapsy and Viv's knocks this was a pure one man show) 140+ by Pawning (this was like Virat's knock) 175 by Gibbs (like Pawning's knock) 100+ by Kevin O Brien (almost a one man show and Miandadesque (not in the hitting but in the chasing))
Dhoni's knock of 183 while chasing while the second highest score by an Indian was 38. It was a one man show.

1. Virat scored more than twice the next highest scorer. 2. You seem to be side-stepping the fact that Virat guided the team to the required goal. He wasn't playing for glory. He went after the bowling because the team had to get to 321 under 40 overs and he stayed till the end. The 30, 39, 63, 40 were crucial runs but don't forget the match situation. Point 2 in itself qualifies the innings as one of the best ahead of at least half the innings listed by you. After that it's each to his own.
Yes people are forgetting the situation over 200 runs to chase and that to in less than 40 overs. This kind of chase rarely happens. Last time I saw it happened in 2006 while SL chased down England's 320ish total in 38 odd overs and Jaysuriya scored 151 in 99 balls and that is one of the best ODI innings ever and that match was played in England.

Guys. Dont forget the knock played by Kevin O Brien which has to be the best odi innings of All time .
Yup, this is up there. Consider the match situation: Kevin walked in when Ireland were 111 for five in an apparently vain pursuit of England's 327. O'Brien started hitting right away and by the time he was done he had amassed 13 fours and 6 sixes. He knew Ireland had nothing to lose but just go for the kill. Kohli probably was in a similar mind set. No fear... just whack!

Where did you get the idea that I was trying to show Virat's knock was not a great one? In case you did not notice I just mentioned those innings in chronological order - did not even attempt to rank them. You cannot rank these innings. All of these innings are miracles. Wow! I didn't think it was so much of a one man show. I thought Viru or Rahul had a huge partnership with him. Amazing!

sachin's desert storm was better anywasy..reason..indian team was very poor and was a one man army..we had people like azhar,jadeja,nayan mongia who were sure to get out anyways..

Hard to compare Tendulkar's knock with Kohli's. One shouldn't forget the stoppage in play during Tendulkar's knock. Going in and out because of the storm can be really annoying for a batsman. Tendulkar though kept his cool and took us to the final. We lost the game, but qualified. Here though, Virat had to make sure we had to WIN the match. Also imagine this, we were 200 odd in 27th over and we cruised to victory in 36th over in no time chasing 321. Virat was very special today. TOP INNINGS.
I am surprised how this point got overlooked before and after you mentioned it. Not that it is the deciding criteria, but it is a very important point nevertheless.

Yes ranks among the bests I have seen. In no particular order- Sachin desert storm, Sachin 98 vs Pak 2003 WC, Gibbs 175, Ponting 2003 WC final ton, Kohli Hobart 2012.

i'd put it at no 43 because we are not going to make it to the finals and its pretty much a useless stat.
hmm looks like one less match we get to hear MC/BC's from our resident dustbin Virat. I'm sure we can all live with that.
