Dhoni should perform for Test captaincy: Ganguly

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly feels India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni should perform better if he has to retain his Test captaincy. India suffered eight Test losses in England and Australia and Ganguly said its time for changes in team. "If Dhoni has to be captain of the Test team, he has to perform better. Look at his performance. He will not be picked for a Test team," Ganguly told a news channel. "India has lost too many Tests overseas, eight in a row. Is that not a sign enough for making changes?" he added. However, Ganguly feels Virender Sehwag is the right man to lead the Test side. "Sehwag is a great Test cricketer and a certainty in Tests. See his record as a Test captain. Before Adelaide, he won all that he led. I don't see Sehwag being dropped from Test matches. "If India has to move forward, selectors have to identify players for different formats of the game." But former India captain Kapil Dev disagreed with Ganguly's opinion and said: "Dhoni has been one of the best captains in recent times and has achieved quite a bit as captain. He has been able to motivate the team which has won laurels." "Despite being a brilliant player, Sehwag has not given me an impression of being a motivator. It will be wrong to change Dhoni at this stage." Kapil feels it is wrong to put all the blame on Dhoni for India's dismal performance. "Cricket has changed. What about the top players who failed to perform? Nobody is talking about their failures. Dada is pissed off after seeing sehwag being dropped so he is taking a dig at dhoni i would agree dhoni needs to be dropped in test but naming sehwag as replacement is utter nonsense even raina has a better record than sehwag in away condition

He has a valid point, but how can you name Sehwag as a replacement in that case. Sehwag has an even worse record than Dhoni in those 6 matches and atleast Dhoni isnt a specialist batsman

Fat boy Sehwag hasn't scored a Test century since 2010 and hasn't scored a Test century outside Asia since 2008, clearly the "performances" that India need from a potential Test leader

Looks like it's game over for Sehwag. I wouldn't be surprised if Kohli is made the perm VC in all formats. As much as I hate Kohli's MCs and BCs, he is the only performing member of the team at this point.

I feel it is too early for Kholi to be VC...it should be Gauti if any one now. They should let Kholi enjoy his game with open mind.
