vamos_rafa Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I don't know why people are paying so much heed for him being made the VC. As we know, in India it just does not matter who is the VC. The only 2 occasions when I can recall that a vice-cpatian was handed over the reigns was when Sachin was made the captain in 1996 and when Dravid was the succesor to dada. Dhoni also took over from Kumble but he was already a captain in ODIs. This whole business of grooming and all is not in India it seems. Here captains resign in desperation and are selected in desperation.
ganeshran Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 He is already settled down in ODIs and he is VC for ODIs. Making him VC is what is being discussed here and is premature. The Indian team captaincy is an extremely stressful job, the media and public bay for your head even after one bad performance. I dont see Kohli being able to handle the additional pressure even 2-3 years from now. Let him bat well and not put way too much pressure on the one bright spot of the next generation in both ODIs and tests.
Spiderguy252 Posted March 1, 2012 Author Posted March 1, 2012 Dhoni is close to lose captaincy in tests but Gambhir is close to lose his spot in tests the way he played in Australia and we are not touring overseas next 2 years so both spots are out of danger' date=' IMHO.[/quote'] I highly doubt we can lose Sehwag and Gambhir in addition to three middle-order departures in the foreseeable. Gambhir's going nowhere. And rightfully so. He still averages 40+, and has put up strong showings in New Zealand and South Africa over the past couple of years. He's a proven performer. Now where he's gone wrong is in the England tour (where he was battered by injury among other things) and these 4 Aussie tests that showed some technical failings. But I'll still have a guy who is an opening batsman, averages 45, does well in the sub-continent, and has done well in NZ and SA. Only a matter of time before he has another good tour down under or England IMO. That'll fix the stats.
Stuge Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I never liked the idea of Kohli being the VC right now . IMO KOhli seriously needs to fix his general Attitude .The way he behaved in Sydney test was pathetic to say the least .
asterix Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I think it's a right move. Kohli will be under Dhoni in ODIs and will learn from the experience... Gauti has done his stint as a captain in ODIs. Dhoni might opt out of Test captaincy in near future to sustain his longivity in other forms of the game. When that situation arises Gauti could become the Test matches captain.. Once Dhoni retires from ODIs etc. by that time Kohli will be ready to take charge of the LOI teams. I think Gauti should fully concentrate on Test matches and it's captaincy. The Selectors should let him know that they are looking at him as Test captain once Dhoni decides to let go the Test captaincy..

Precambrian Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I,d have backed gambir but he appeared to be overzealous after criticizing dhoni. Backing such a chap can only help in building pakistani type team
Spiderguy252 Posted March 1, 2012 Author Posted March 1, 2012 I' date='d have backed gambir but he appeared to be overzealous after criticizing dhoni. Backing such a chap can only help in building pakistani type team[/quote'] "We shouldn't have taken the game till the 50th over" hardly sounds like criticism in any way, shape or form, mate. Whoever in the Indian team/board/management insulted by such a glib phrase needs to grow a pair.
jusarrived Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Its premature because of Kohli's attitude. He has played brilliantly in the last 2-3 years but leadership is a different quality altogether. Let him settle down in the team, play for a couple of years more and see if he matures further as a player, then think about captaincy GG dosent have attitude issues ? The guy talks nonsense mostly for some one whos a senior pro . honesly I like the way Virat is atm , hes agressive which is not a bad thing ...the kind of intensity he shows on the field be it batting or fielding is so refreshing to see ..even the MC , BC gaalis ar fine .
Spiderguy252 Posted March 1, 2012 Author Posted March 1, 2012 GG dosent have attitude issues ? The guy talks nonsense mostly for some one whos a senior pro . Read my reply just prior to your post. What Gambhir said after the Australia game, if that's what you're referring to, is far from "nonsense". And even if it is, having a middle finger wagging, Hindi cussing barely out of teenage hot head is not the answer either.

Only a matter of time before he has another good tour down under or England IMO. That'll fix the stats. Sounds ironical given how you have been hammering away at MSD for his lack of runs in tests. So you "still have a guy who is an opening batsman, averages 45, does well in the sub-continent, and has done well in NZ and SA" but "a guy who is a keeper batsman, averages 40, does well in the sub-continent, and has done well in NZ and SA" is terrible, a joke of a batsman, is a moron who swings blindly and all his supporters are blind and hail from some remote villages in India!

What're you on about? Dhoni hasn't done well in South Africa. If he could do well in the likes of England, Australia and South Africa why would such threads pop up? Note that I didn't start the thread, and that Ganguly was the one who was doing the criticism to the media. Dhoni, after 7 tests in Australia, where we are right now, averages 18 or something crap like that. (EDIT: 18.96) Gambhir on the other hand, has only failed in the current Australia test tour so far in his career. He's done well everywhere else save for England. But I'll knock you on the head and twice on the ribs and ask you to bat and do better.

He is not captain yet and it will take at least 2-3 years before he will be captain at same age as Dhoni became captain.

No 100s in 2 years in 17 tests despite playing 4 series at home SA, Aus, NZ and WI! But despite being a villager (me being a Dhoni fan), I will still support him to come good and start doing well for us.
CG Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Probably because of Gambhir's missing the windies tour due to injury after playing in IPL. Kohli's elevation to VC is way too premature. Guess it was because of his last innings,In india we just do things nothing is planned,As Selection commitee did not have guts for changing the players they changed the vice captainship.Seriously with these type of selectors indian cricket will just go in one direction that is down.
akshayxyz Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Agree ... Its a joke that Gambhir wasn't vice-captain. At least in ODI cricket, he hasn't put a foot wrong and is a consistent performer who has captained India before. Don't get me wrong, Virat Kohli is a very good player and will be captain one day. However its still too soon for him. We have been making same mistake for ages. Captain should be appointed based on leadership skills and not just based on cricket skills / recent-form.

Come winter of 2013, you're still going to tune to watch your TVs hoping for your MS Dhoni to thwack a rearguard double ton at Newlands against Steyn, Philander and Morkel, eh? Meanwhile, the rest of us secretly swap some mythical 8-0 looking figure into 11-0 in our heads. Thank heavens SA is never a four test series.

saneindian Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Guess how much dhoni averages 29.achi jodi hai. Keeper batsman vs pure batsman :winky: Waise bhi Dhoni to moron hai aur uske supporters rampur ke gaonwale hain :subak subak:
