Keeper batsmen averaging 29 don't have a place in the side. Kamran Akmal could do better than that. Dinesh Karthik averaged in that range and was given all of just over 20 tests to perform better. Unfair much? A pure batsman averaging 29 is a cause for concern, but not after looking at his career stats and performances, as well as technique and potential. And if said pure batsman still averages 45 after averaging 29 for two years, hell yeah, slot him into my side anyday. Good form is imminent and right around the corner. Blabbing in Hindi and then sticking to the stand of Dhoni > Gambhir is laughable to state the obvious. Not to mention, when pointed out that that is not the case, turning around and saying stuff such as "He's only a keeper batsman, it's okay", "He won the World Cup Final for us" is utterly laughable.

Such finite filtering to the nth degree is irrelevant, inconsequential and stands to prove little. Ask any average cricket fan, Indian or otherwise, who Dinesh Karthik was, and a keeper bat would be the unanimous response. Note that I didn't filter any of that stuff through Statsguru when I listed offhand Dhoni or Kamran Akmal's statistics. We all know they were keeper batsmen, and they ain't transforming into different species of human beings if they walk out onto the field without the gloves on in a game here or there. For instance, your stats fall flat for the Lord's test in summer of '11 when Dhoni (gasp!) decided to bowl and pass on the gloves to Dravid. What happens then? Will you and your statistics then allege that Rahul Dravid, in fact, scored a ton at Lord's to get on the honours board as a partial wiki-bat? Weak.

I'm happy with Kohli's promotion.. Although I see him under huge pressure to not 'swear' or 'gesture' in public now that he is VC of the team..He has to learn to vent out all his feeling in dressing room and hotel room.. Because if he makes any mistake, the BCCI will not take much time to dump him...

Like Yuvraj, though he's run into other problems that have prevented him from certain aspirations like captaincy or a position in the test line-up.

even i was against kohli getting captaincy at first but after seeing their performance in the last tour i feel we really need a captain who can kick our player`s A S S both on and off the field

If Kohli can keep his emotions under check, to me it is better to groom him as the next cappo cause by the time Dhoni hangs up Gambhir ain't going to have much time to lead. Removing Dhoni as test cappo ain't going to happen just because of 2 series losses, even though they were massive white washes.

These are the problems which plague india and most of its fans.Kohli has a long long way to go in test cricket .No captain should survive 2 white washes.

Gambhir deserved to be the VC throughout. I don't know why Sehwag was the VC in the first place. Gambhir did reasonably well while he was the captain and whitewashed kiwis in odi series at home.

what has batting skills got to do with Captaincy? yes, your place should be secured in the team and yes you need to perform and lead by example. So who are the players who have good people management skills? who can strategize? IMO MSD is definitely the best captain till the time he retires from ODIs, and Kholi is the only other player whose position is a certainity for some time to come.. Good job selectors!
