Tiger80 Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 SP ahead in UP, Akalis lead in Punjab, close fight in Uttarakhand Samajwadi Party surged ahead in Uttar Pradesh, leading in 32 seats and BJP sprung a surprise by coming a close second with leads in 26 seats, as counting for votes began for the 403-strong state Assembly. In the early trends available for 85 seats, Congress emerged third leading in "Counting for all 403 seats has started at 8 am and will continue till all results are announced amidst tight security arrangements," Chief Electoral Officer Umesh Sinha said. Congress faces an uphill task in reviving its fortunes in the Mayawati-ruled Uttar Pradesh where its campaign was led from the front by Rahul Gandhi. Congress is contesting 357 seats in the state out of 403 seats where it won 22 seats in the 2007 state polls. The ruling BSP, which won 206 in last elections, in UP has contested all 403 seats, SP 402, BJP 398 and RLD 46. Exit polls have predicted a hung assembly in the state with the SP showed as cornering the major chunk of seats. In 2007 polls, SP had got 97 seats, BJP 50 and RLD, which contested in alliance with BJP won 10 seats. Independents and others had got 17 seats. Among candidates who were leading in the initial trends were Apna Dal general secretary Anupriya Patel in Rohaniya, BJP vice-president Kalraj Mishra on Lucknow East, Shivpal Singh Yadav on Jaswantnagar, Gopal Tandon on Lucknow North, whereas UPPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi and cabinet minister Nakul Dubey were trailing on Lucknow Cantt and Bakshi ka Talab seats respectively. In 117-member Punjab assembly, Akali Dal-BJP combine is leading on 58 seats while Congress is leading on 34 seats and others are leading on 4 seats. In Uttarakhand, Congress is leading on 23 seats while the ruling BJP is ahead on 19. The BSP is ahead on 6 seats. The trends were availabe for 55 out of 70 seats. In 60-member Manipur Assembly, trends were available for seventeen seats with Congress leading in 13, PDF 1 and others 3. In 40-member Goa Assembly trend for 7 seats are availaible. BJP+ is leading on 3 seats while Congress+ is also leading on 3 seats. The results will end all the speculations on who will for the government in these states. Stuge Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Boy killed in celebratory firing; SP men attack lensmen A young boy was killed on Tuesday during celebratory firing allegedly by Samajwadi supporters after the party candidate’s victory in Sambhal area while workers from the same party clashed with some TV cameramen in Jhansi during which their equipment was broken. Police said the 12-year-old boy identified as Danish died after being hit by a bullet during celebratory firing allegedly by supporters of SP candidate from Sambhal assembly seat Iqbal Mahmood this evening. Sambhal is about 350 km from here. Superintendent of Police D.K. Garg said necessary action was being taken. Reports reaching here from Jhansi, about 300 km from here, said supporters of SP clashed with some TV cameramen during which some of their equipment were broken. A complaint in this regard has been registered with the district administration, sources said. Meanwhile, Counting for the Babina assembly seat in Jhansi had to be stopped after the seal of 17 EVMs were found broken. Official sources said following objections from SP candidate Chandrapal Singh Yadav counting was stopped in the evening. Sources said further directives have been sought from the Election Commission. So most probably if BJP forms the Govt then he unfortunately won't be the CM. he can afford that because there's Rajya Sabha but in Uttrakhand there's no Vidhan Parishad (Legislative Council) so the only way for Khanduri is to win an election.

Poor Khanduri lost because the corrupt leaders amongst the BJP worked hard towards dividing the BJP votes in Kotdwar.Even BJP was just using Khanduri to get them the votes.They deserve to lose.If they were so honest they wouldn't have got Nishank to replace Khanduri in the first place.
Raghav_12 Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 I know there would not be much love for Mulayam Singh and his party among netizens, but I am impressed how one-man party took on two big national parties and incumbent government, altogether. That too without resorting to divisive politics to the level of BSP (casteism), Congress (Muslim reservation) and BJP,ofcourse. I hope he and his son realize the amount of trust UP public has shown in them and work towards providing a good government.

A non MLA can become CM, but he has to get elected within 6 months or resign.
