Ultimate_Game Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Our greatest batsman and match-winner away from home "hatsoff: Headingley 2002, Adelaide 2003, Rawalpindi 2004, Jamaica 2006 etc. would not have been possible without him and he was one of the main reasons why India did well in 2000s away from home. One of the very few Indian batsmen who could be relied upon in tough situations and definitely the best away at the crunch. Rahul Dravid, what a legend!

Dravid was a team-man and a selfless cricketer to the core and this ending will re-inforce the point. No point in playing a farewell match like what Jayasuriya did against Eng last year and tarnish his image.

In Pakistan Ganguly was the captain though he was injured for one test match.

Looking at his stature fairy tale ending would be a win or a stunning performance by himself in SA or Aus. Even a win in Eng would have done. But now all we have scheduled are a string of tours at home and however good he does in these tours, nothing will be fairy tale. However, coming back to thread, hat's off to Dravid for the career he had and contribution he made to Indian cricket.

Dravid was the captain during the 2007 England Series and to everybodys surprise he quit captaincy after leading the side to Series Win on English soil in a long time . After Dravid gave up captaincy Kumble was appointed captain for the Next Series which was Down Under in Australia 2008 .

Not only in tests but even in ODIs he took over the wicketkeeping gloves when there was no good batsman wicketkeeper around and provided great stability to the team. Not to mention he was also the highest run scorer in 1999 world cup. And second overall test run getter after Sachin. A great achievement considering he has played far lesser matches than Sachin. :adore:
