Cricket Tragic Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 It requires special talent and courage to execute in a match situation. He did that to Mendis as well where our veteran cricketers were all at sea. Ajmal has not bamboozled like Mendis has done even if it was for just one series. Still there is something about Ajmal that still batsmen have to unravel. Myth Tendulkar played him easily in that series. Vaas and Murali caused problems actually. Mendis to Tendulkar in that series 66 balls 57 runs Got him out only once - last innings where he didn't pick the wrong un.
Crookbond Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Oh Mike Hussey had killed him in that T20, forget about just playing well. It is perplexing to see Sachin struggling so much against this chucker. Going forward without reading his delivery is dangerous ploy. I hope he comes up with some strategy in case we meet Pakistan in final. The last time I saw Tendulkar wanting was against Vettori, he came up with the paddle sweep. I am curious what he comes up against Tendulkar.
akshayxyz Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 ^ Batting left handed :hmmm: Ronnie O'Sullivan would have done that for sure.
Crookbond Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Mike Hussey in T20 match against Ajmal . I thought this was a freak innings from Mr. Cricket. I am not yet convinced he can 'pick' the doosra. In any case, it's less effective to LHBs.

Mendis to Tendulkar in that series 66 balls 57 runs Got him out only once - last innings where he didn't pick the wrong un. didn't say Tendu in particular.. Laxman was dismissed 5 times. Dravid also struggled against him. It is only in the second tour everyone else got comfortable. You gotta IPL, T20 helped.. First Dinesh akrthik smacked him for 3 consecutive sixes, then Yusuf pathan smacked in T20 super over, Then Raina smacked him for 4 sixes in a row... slowly and steadily he became a liability against us.

SRT had a poor series + Mendis had a great one. So people assume that Mendis got the better of him. :giggle:

Spot on there CT which makes me curious why he can't pick the Ajmal's doosra. The last time I saw him bamboozled he came up with something special, this time too I' m waiting. I hope we play Pakistan in the finals, want to see what he comes up against Ajmal.
kabira Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Ajmal was bowling round the wicket and every indian batsman, virat, sachin and Rohit were trying to play for the turn, most of his deliveries were going straight. Thats the akward angle for Right Handers and only in later half they decided to play him on offside. They will come up with better plan in Final (if we reach it)
vamos_rafa Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 It's just 2 matches. I am sure Sachin would come up with a different ploy now. Moreover, it's not that Ajmal is someone like McGrath who tests your technique or something. It's just a matter of picking that one delivery. Right now he just plonks his fornt foot forward, maybe to guard against the LBW. But in the process, he plays across the line as well. This is similar to the way Fannie Devilliers used to get him out with the slower ones. and when he did start picking them, he murdered the slower one's,specially in that revenge match in 1996.
rkt.india Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 His reflexes has slowed down, not much feet movement. He used to be awesome against spinners He used to be one of the few players who could pick Saqlain's doosra (Murali's was wasier to pick) and Saqlain's doosra was much harder to pick than Ajmal's. Old age I guess But the thing is he is not picking Ajmal's variation like Rohit and Kohli picked most of the time. Once Rohit picked his doosra so early and played stand still for four to off side where there was no fielder. Ajmal's doosra is harder to pick. It is hard to tell whether is is off spin or doosra because he chucks both.
rkt.india Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Mike hussey i have noticed him play well.. also Raina did well . Probably lefties. Rohit picked him very well today on many occasion one of his four from front foot on Ajmal was really good picked up from hand.

IPL only came after that.
Needforspeed Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Tendulkar against spinners is not the vintage Tendulkar (vs Warne for example) anymore. Forget about Ajmal ... in recent times he has been struggling against even rookie spinners. I think the foot-eye coordination has slowed down a bit with age.
kabira Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Rohit picked him very well today on many occasion one of his four from front foot on Ajmal was really good picked up from hand. probaly later half of his innings. But Rohit was at sea initially.

Yea.. in the IPL he struggled against a rookie spinner from CSK if i remember right.

This is similar to the way Fannie Devilliers used to get him out with the slower ones. and when he did start picking them, he murdered the slower one's,specially in that revenge match in 1996. He's done in some good spinners without playing a single game too. It's good there's no DRS else Ajmal makes best use of it, tactically. The issue here is not being safe against Ajmal, the issue is being safe and scoring runs. Unless you bundle out the opposition for a sub-par total (difficult to conceive considering our great bowling attack), you just can't play out/block Ajmal. You've got to rotate the strike with singles and twos. In the process, your wrists come into play and the face of the bat tends to close. This makes Ajmal's doosra (and never talked about straighter one) really dangerous.
rkt.india Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 probaly later half of his innings. But Rohit was at sea initially. I think Rohit Sharma played Ajmal only first time, it was expected but later he became bit more assured.
Pagalpanti Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 We haven't played ajmal a lot probably thats the reason, even Rohit was struggling against him. Virat edged a few times but lucky for him there were no slips. His doosra is really hard to pick since his action doesn't differ much.
