Ultimate_Game Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 when did they win last win a bilateral series against us? (ODI) I think they have lost 5-6 consecutive bilaterals. That's the thing. They have been India's bi@tches for long and can't do jack shyt against us. Even in Aus when they were supposedly great and we were poor they only managed to beat us just once in 4 games :haha: Now the "Loins" are so frustrated that they are happy to watch their team lose to B'desh as long as India doesn't reach the finals coz they know they can't do jack sht themselves :cantstop: I mean what is more pathetic - losing 12 series on the trot or celebrating their defeat against B'desh :giggle:
Asim Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 @Ultimate_Game & deathmonger: Batting for ind since many years was not as such an issue anyways and I know u had amazing bench strength too but wud you like to draw conclusions only on the bases of these two 300+ chases vs SL & Pak? & wont count 3/4 defeats vs Aus (not that #1 Aus of a decade ago) and all defeats came mainly bcz of batting failure; falling each time around 160 and lineup which includes Kohli, Sharma, Raina & co... Bowling: well, I know you have some decent bowling strength at stand-by but unless they dont come into action and perform regularly everywhere, u can't just suppose u have a great bowling, can u? Also I am sorry but in last 1 years I heard so many times from ind fans, this was our 2nd line, 3rd line bowling attack but to me the best "available" attack which is playing in "final 11" is always your 1st line attack For Pak I agree there are concerns in every department, Batting just started to improve a bit, at least we dont collapse that often now but ofcourse it still not too reliable. In bowling spin doing reasonably well but no doubt this is worst time in Fast Bowling of Pak since I started to follow cricket :((

Else we've done well home and abroad. Even in England ODIs we hit huge scores only to lose due to rain and bad bowling. As for 1st line attack even you know that Aaron Yadav are 1st line attack. Didn't you see these guys in 5-0 defeat of England. These are the same guys who drubbed you all 4-0. DISCLAIMER: Talking of ODIs here. Tests I admit we have problems.

The Aus series was a one-off in quite a while. As for bowling I expect folks like Ishant & Munaf to come back post his ankle surgery along with likes of Umesh, Ashwin & Rahul Sharma to form a decent unit. Plus hoping we can unearth a quality bowler in domestic cricket soon.

Maybe some domestic bowler will do well in IPL this time (I know IPL is not a standard for evaluating but still that's the only place where domestic bowlers get spotlight). Also Ashwin,Umesh,Rahul only got into limelight from IPL and have done decently. I want to see how Shami Ahmed does along with Umesh, Aaron. We have a World T20 this year and if we get some decent bowlers we may win with the batting strength we have.
Sachinism Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 It was a tournament which nobody really cared about, but turned out to be very good

Do keep in mind that even though our batting was good in the T20 Cup we won, it was our bowling which really made the difference. Against Pak we defended 143 in the group match, defended 140 against SA in a must win game and in the final defended 150 odd against Pakis. In the latter stages of the tourney the score tends to come down a bit and the bowlers have to step up. We need to have a bowling attack who can defend a 150-160 total as you can't depend on defending a total of 180 everytime, and frankly given our bowling attack recently even 180 would be tough for us to defend.
Ultimate_Game Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 It was a tournament which nobody really cared about' date= but turned out to be very good Not a fair statement. I, and plenty of others, would have loved to win the tourney. Not as much as WC but definitely worth winning all the same. Plus the game against Pakistan is always special since they come along rarely these days. It was good to see us beating Lankans and Pakis convincingly but feel a bit down knowing that we were the best team in the tourney, and would back India to beat any of these teams if we have a rematch, but won't be in the final owing to the brain-fart we had against B'desh.

My feeling is that once Bangladesh start winning more the Asia Cup will take more importance.

Ultimate_Game Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 My feeling is that once Bangladesh start winning more the Asia Cup will take more importance. Any tourney where we play Pakis has meaning. Obviously it won't be as big as WC but it would be big nevertheless.
Ultimate_Game Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Ishant should be kept away from limited overs cricket and play FC cricket to learn how to take wickets. IMo he needs to start outfoxing batsmen in shorter format as well. No great, or even good, bowler in the world had to be kept away from the shorter formats. Wasim, Waqar, Mcgrath, Ambrose etc. played in all formats and delivered. Ishant needs to do so especially since the next WC is in Aus and Ishant's pace will come in handy. Ishant's real problem in odis was due to the fact that he dropped quite a bit of pace and started bowling in late 120s and early 130s. Now he's back to bowling in 140s consistently his short of length bowling would come in handy in odis, especially in Aus.

I meant the Asia Cup will garner a wider viewership than just Asia. I understand the Pakistan factor but matches against Sri Lanka (though not looked forward too) are watched with fervor and taste. I want an Asia Cup to be the Ashes of ODIs.

It's not like he has played only a handful of games either. Right now, even his test spot is in doubt. 2 spinners will be played in India. Is he among the top 2 seamers for us? No. That would be Zak and Umesh.

I think it will work on slow-low pitches like the West Indies. Short bowling in places like Australia,England will be taken to the cleaners; irrespective of T20, ODIs or Test matches.

He need to play more odis and bowl the same way he did in Tests - full pelt at mid 140s or approaching 150 kph. In Tests he was unlucky as he beat the edges or batsmen were able to play him out, but in odis he will have more chances of taking wkts as the batsmen will need to to take him on and score runs. I firmly believe he deteriorated in odis as his pace dropped. When his pace was in 140s as in the previous CB Series in 2008 he was tough to handle and a pretty good odi bowler.

Some ppl may slag it but you get to see everyone there and see how they are doing.
