After a good test win in which a new pair of openners were one of the reasons of India's sucess Virender Sehwag will be thinking, were to now, any thoughts on if Sehwag has a future in Indian cricket with upcoming stars like Uthappa, Gambhir and Yuvraj

The guy needs to perform. He needs to come back to the team after prolific scoring. I dont know why he did n't opt to play in England. That would have given him the much needed time to be in the middle. Gone are the days when the players were so egoistic that they would make statements like - selectors will come back to me after failures by the replacements. These replacements dont want to miss out on opportunity and they are going to prove their worth not based on past performance but based on what they can do - match after match.

Someone's loss is someone's gain. Isn't Sehwag in the ODI team? If he is then he cannot afford to throw his wicket away in haste like he did against Bangladesh if he even harbors any thoughts of making a come back to test cricket. For now I reckon he is not going to be able to get into the test team. Already Yuvraj is waiting in the wings and I cannot see how he can force his way back into the test team. He had a golden opportunity by knocking off couple of hundreds against Bangladesh but he didn't do enough.

spacer.gif Indian ODI & Twenty20 squads to be picked on August 7 July 28, 2007 The Indian squads for the seven-match ODI series against England and the Twenty20 World Championship in South Africa will be chosen on August 7, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced. The selectors will also name the captain for the championship as Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly have pulled out of the tournament. Dravid however, will captain the side for the seven ODIs against England from August 21 to September 8. The 15-member squad for the championship, to be held from September 11 to 24, will be chosen from the list of 30 probables which has already been announced. In Dravid's absence, there's a possibility of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the ODI vice-captain, leading the side. Included among the probables are some of the players who missed out on selection for the Tests in England like Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan. http://content-aus.cricinfo.com/india/content/story/304043.html

wtf kinda logic is that ? wtf does 20/20 form gotto do with ODI or test cricket ?
Well let's see. Sehwag was dropped for the England test and ODI squad because of his repeated failures. When the likes of Yuvraj cannot make the playing team and when the openers are demonstrate a solid and match winning performance the selctors are going to think very carefullly about rocking the boat. The 20/20 world cup is the ideal time to test Sehwag's return so that he can creep back into the ODI side. Then the door will be open for the ODI's against Australia and, potentially, the home test against Pakistan.

When things are going good for the team its hard for Sehwag to force his way back into the team. But the moment they start losing which might happen against Pak or Aus later this year, Sehwag will most priobably be brought back even if it doesnt seem logical. Its just the way Indian cricket works!
