Cricket Tragic Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 But Sobers wasn't a genuines wkt taker with bowling average in 30s. I would add another out and out seamer from one of the WI quartet in 80s or Wasim. The point is with likes of Bradman in the team and Gilchrist and Imran batting till 7 or 8 you would rather add another bowler to make it tougher for the opposition. Against this bowling attack they will have no breathing space. Could do that but I think the bowling is good enough. And Imran's batting wasn't that good.
Ultimate_Game Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Here goes mine... Hobbs Gavaskar Bradman Tendulkar Richards Lara/Ponting Gilchrist Imran Marshall Wasim/McGrath Warne The 2 spots up in the air between Ponting & Lara, and between Wasim & McGrath.

That would be a great debate. Unfortunately, bowler comparison threads aren't popular.

The key is to score more than the opponent to win the game. With such a bowling lineup where the opposing batsmen can't find a weak link and all 5 bowlers are world class, the opposing team wouldn't score very many against the team and this team would have enough batting firepower to chase any target put by the opposing team. With Sobers in the team, the opposing batsmen may at least get a bit of relief which i wouldn't want them to get with such world class options available.

Ultimate_Game Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 That would be a great debate. Unfortunately' date=' bowler comparison threads aren't popular.[/quote'] I know man. Wasim could do anythin with the ball - be it new or old. He could swing it, seam it, bowl yorkers, generate pace off of a short runup etc. whereas McGrath was unrelenting and wouldn't give batsmen anything to hit. 2 very different bowlers but nightmare for the batsmen.
Ultimate_Game Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Ponting in ATXI.? :cantstop: If Richard & Lara can be, I can't see any reason why not :dontknow: They guy was one of the best players of pace bowling and one of the best hookers/pullers the game has seen. When you select a World XI team you don't look at the current form of a layer but what they did over the majority of the career and Ponting was pretty consistent throughout.
Lurker Posted April 11, 2012 Author Posted April 11, 2012 No Murali? Nor Kallis. And I am happy with their (non)selection :--D
Lurker Posted April 11, 2012 Author Posted April 11, 2012 Undoubtedly Team C. Greenidge' date=' Lara, Botham ,Kapil and Glenn Mcgrath. People ask the All Time xi and all. This is the team to beat.[/quote'] :hatsoff: I think ALL time XI teams are also reflective of people who choose them and the style of cricket they like to watch. Team A is a bit too calculating in my opinion. Folks like Sunny, Hobbs, Bradman, Imran etc are pragmatic players who would rather draw than lose going for a win. Team C is more cavalier what with Greenidge, Botham Kapil, Lara etc..Glenn Mcgrath is an aberration of course. Your style of following cricket may be very similar to mine Khalpat miyaan.. :yay:
India-KXIP fan Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Hobbs Gavaskar Bradman Lara Viv Sobers Gilly Hadlee Marshall Warne Lillee :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: My team would kill that team (srs) You may pull of 1 draw cause of rain

Ponting just had 6 wonderful years as a batsman but thats about it.He should be nowhere near an AT XI.On top of that he could never play spin to save his life!
Lurker Posted April 11, 2012 Author Posted April 11, 2012 This was done a few years back right? I think I have the DVD somewhere too. 2006 Ashes I beleive it was. What a summer that was too! Seemed entire world stood behind England to beat Aussies, for a change. Flintoff-Gilly, Harmisson-Ponting battles, Warne taking 40 wickets, Mcgrath running over England..and then a cricket ball :giggle: Simon Jones inswinger to Clarke is still fresh in memory. And amidst it all benaud was unveiling his team. A great cricketing memory.
Lurker Posted April 11, 2012 Author Posted April 11, 2012 Team D: Sehwag Hayden BCL SRT VVS Gilchrist Ambrose Donald Waz Warne© Yep just 10 will do ... throw in some kid from the tontee-tontee circus for just the fielding :phehehe: Team is good from the bottom, or as you prefer..reading from the right :--D:--D Hayden and Sehwag as opener in all time XI :hmmm::hmmm:

India-KXIP fan Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Hobbs Gavaskar Bradman Lara Viv Sobers Gilly Hadlee Marshall Warne Lillee Here's how it will go. All modern players will be out cause my bowling attack is world class. Bradman and Hobbs have poor techniques, never faced doosra (Murali) or reverse swing (Wasim), consistency of McGrath or a very tall fast bowler like Ambrose. So I think we all agree your team would be 180ish all out. My batting line up is solid. A wall in Sunny, get him out a wall in Dravid. Aggressive opener and then also god of cricket. The gritty Waugh and agressive Lara. In the end Gilly will slog a few. Let us be realtea the only true great bowler you have is Malcolm. Tendulkar would murder Warne, Hadlee and Lilee are not the best ever. So we will be 550/6 dec. Then track will become turner Murali gets 7 for( Bradman clueless against doosra). We win by innings. Good game
Sachinism Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 2005 The 2006/07 Ashes was a disaster. 2006/07 Ashes series is The unmentionable series :haha:
The Outsider Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 A team with Bradman and Sobers is like playing with 13 instead of 11 players - team A would be pretty much impossible to beat.
