Sehwag1830 Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Does anyone else notices the demerits of Gayle's way of T20 batting. I know by the end he manages to have a very excellent strike rate. But somehow i think his slow batting in the beginning costs his team a very high approach. Now contrast this to Sehwag who starts firing from the first ball and by the time he gets out makes sure his team can get 180 without much effort. PS: I am not comparing them as batsmen. Both are ridiculous hitter of the ball. I somehow feel Gayle slow go approach in the beginning costs his team a high total.
Zelig Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 You will also need to consider the batsmen they are playing with while gauging them. Kohli is awfully out of form & Mayank/Dilshan are not helping the cause either. Whereas, Jaya is solid and KP is in fine form too, which makes Sehwag's job all the more easy. Viru knows that the batsmen following him can get the job done for his team. Unfortunately, CG doesn't enjoy such luxury.
CSK Fan Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 I will really want to see how Sehwag plays in the longer format after the big three retire. Will he take more responsibilty or just throw his wicket away. BTW, Gayle did play a couple of knocks like Sehwag in the beginning, its only towards the later part he changed his approach
vvvslaxman Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Viru is a non stop bullet train.. Gayle sometimes pauses in between. Also Viru is effortless even on a spinning track against spinners.
Sehwag1830 Posted May 2, 2012 Author Posted May 2, 2012 Compare scorecard of DD yesterday with RCB today. opener fail . KP and Kohli both scoring run a ball ,Taylor , Deviliers fail and yet DD were around 145 in 15 overs. Once again i am not comparing them as batsman.

If you look at the strike rate of Viru it is better than Gayle's in any format including IPL this season coz he never slows down at any point. There are no breaks in his innings.

Kohli & the other opener have been failing consistently for RCB.
Sehwag1830 Posted May 2, 2012 Author Posted May 2, 2012 Gayle is the best T20 batsman in the world. Period. Anyone can be best T20 batsman by following Gayle approach. Play out the good bowlers and thrash the sub-standard trundlers. We have already seen its effect against KKR and KXIP . I can bet 9 out of 10 times , had Sehwag been instead of Gayle the score would have around 130 in 15 th over.

jairamesh Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Gayle has proven himself around the world in T20. Sehwag's only played in India. Gayle's confidence in himself to make up for the initial low strike rate latter on should stop his team mate scoring slowly.

Your team score would be around 60 in 9 overs. However hitting you do afterward. It is difficult to score more than 170 in 20 overs. And so Sehwag should go and play in Bangla, ZIM and OZ league in T20. Care to bring Gayle test or non-minnow ODI record.
Sehwag1830 Posted May 2, 2012 Author Posted May 2, 2012 OK i am in minority here. Fine But somehow i think his slow go approach in beginning costs his team of high score. But let's agree to disagree.

I find people like you so annoying. This tread was opened for exclusively T20 batting camparison, and you even highlighted latter on, and here you are bringing ODIs and Tests into the equation, what's the difference between you and guys jacking off SRT? :hehe:

Jersey #10 Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 SEHWAG written in all upper case but Gayle is not. Why the bias OP?
Lord Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 see it this way Sehwag takes risks from ball one, whereas Gayle takes his time, gets his eye in n then launches which is way more dangerous imo
