Till not long ago the plastic contraption was strapped on his left ankle, which had 20 stitches to close the gash following the ankle surgery the pace-bowler underwent after the tour of Australia. The decision to go under the knife with the lucrative IPL around the corner was a tough one for the Deccan Chargers player, who spends his evenings with his left ankle in a bucket of ice watching his team mates play at venues across India. Thursday may be no different when Deccan play Delhi at the Ferozeshah Kotla. Apart from enjoying the comedy shows on television and the IPL games every evening, Ishant is also baby-sitting his two-month old niece Ananya. Actually I was bit confused whether to go in for the surgery now or later as I was keen on playing for Deccan Chargers in the IPL. But playing for the country is a priority. When I was playing against West Indies in India before the tour of Australia, MRI scans showed that the laser treatment was doing a lot of good for my ankle. But when I went to Australia, I felt a bit of pain and I could play the first Test after taking a cortisone injection, Sharma told The Indian Express on Wednesday. Learning to walk, again Now, Ishant is just about starting to walk again without the help of crutches. I think it will be about six weeks before I can start running. I have just being able to put some weight on my ankle. So it will take a few months. I dont want to rush my comeback, Sharma said. During the lay-off because of the surgery, Sharma has had time to reflect about his game but it hasnt diminished his desire to remain a quick bowler. People know me as a fast bowler and not as a medium-fast bowler. So when I make a comeback I want to continue to bowl fast, Sharma added. The 23-year-old admitted that he went through a crisis of confidence in 2010-11. I think it was all about your confidence level. When you are playing at the highest level most times the technical bits become secondary. If you start thinking about your head dropping, shoulder opening up you will get more confused. Suddenly I wasn't enjoying my cricket. My aggression was misdirected. People started telling me that I am supposed to lead the attack when I wasn't taking wickets. Now when I sit back and think about my game, I think I have learnt from my mistakes. Faulty training methods Faulty training methods also hampered him from performing at his best. For a long time I didn't even know about weight training or wouldn't take it seriously. I spoke to Zak (Zaheer Khan) about my bowling. He kept telling me there is nothing wrong technically in your bowling, you need to train so that your body can take the load? Zaheer is as good a doctor as he is a fast bowler. I never used to do any specific training before, Sharma said. The fast bowler believes he was close to his best during the Test tour of Australia despite having taken only five wickets in four matches. My coach told me, Beta koi puja karva le, only God knows why you are not taking more wickets. :haha: While watching the pre-IPL match show on television Sharma wishes that he was fit enough to play in the Twenty20 league. People have short memory, if you play good they remember you, otherwise they forget about you and move on. The IPL is a big tournament and I miss not playing for the Deccan Chargers.

The guy doesnt seem to be using his head. He is not learning enough from his experiences. Normally, someone who has played so many years would learn how to set up a batsman, how to bowl depending on the conditions, like how Zaheer does. He doesnt seem to be able to guess what the batsman is thinking and out think him. I think it has to do with a lack of intelligence. It may sound harsh but that's how it seems like. He has all the good qualities a fast bowler needs but he is not smart enough to pick wickets. It has nothing to do with luck.

Zaheer learnt to do that after 7 years into his debut. Zaheer is not a great example to emulate anyway.

again he thinks he was unlucky there u go people this guy will never improve :mad:
Cant deny, he was certainly unlucky, but there were other factors too.

Cant deny' date=' he was certainly unlucky, but there were other factors too.[/quote'] sigh...u cant be unlucky for so long period... there were major factor i watch him bowl each and every spell not bowling full was one factor not sticking to one line was another and those freebies per over has always been his big problem and u urself said he wasnt hitting the seam i see enough problems here luck cant ractify this and good coach and attitude to improve can first he needs to accept something is wrong...wrong with him not his luck!

He did try everything, bowled full, bowled short, bowled short of length but nothing worked and he was not giving freebies. Still remember at MCG, his economy was 2 or less than 2 for most part. Yadav gave more freebies than him.

btw he bowled better then wht he bowled in south africa but compared to aussie bowler and even out yadav he didnt really bowled enough wicket taking balls every ball of dale steyn is potential wicket taker when he is in rhythm thts why he is succesful u cant hope to bowl 7 overs and in it of 3-4 balls hit seam and so something to pick wickets how will u ever plan ur bowling like this ? if u have no control he just releases it and hopes for best

His 2nd innings spell at the Lords Test match was excellent too.
i remember it but it was the last memorable performance we are going for sachin's head for not performing we almsot dropped virat after 2 tests this is guy is actually damn lucky to still be in team!

At this point there is nothing much wrong, he had found his rhythm , pace, when everything clicks for him and he starts believing in himself he will be at his best.
