jairamesh Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 http://www.thehindu.com/opinion/op-ed/article3415784.ece Air India really needs to sort itself out. It's not only killing itself but destroying the Indian airline industry by unfair advantage it gets from the government subsidies against much better professionally run private Indian airlines. Surely this week long strike pilots has to be final nail in the coffin for unchecked government support.
ganeshran Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 We can thank Patel for single handedly screwing Air India
Desi Cartman Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Maybe its a conspiracy by Mallaya to gain back some ground :sherlock:
Sachin=GOD Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 We can thank Patel for single handedly screwing Air India Nah. The rot had already set in by the time he came in. Sure, he contributed to the decline but it would be unfair to say that he single handedly screwed Air India. The reality is that now there is no place for a National Carrier in this country and the sooner the Govt realizes this, the better it will be for Air India and for the Aviation Industry as a whole.
ganeshran Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Air India was doing ok till the merger and the subsequent suicidal policies to help private articles. It was barely making a profilt (maybe even a loss), but it didnt depend on the taxpayer's money to keep afloat which is what the situation is now. There was a great article shared some time back on how Patel's policies systematically ran Air India into the ground
Clarke Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 AI has been running since it had massive support from the govt be it the bailouts, route clearance for private airlines or haj subsidies. Praful Patel or not, on a level playing field it would be beaten to the ground by Jet Airways alone.

urbestfriend Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Air India should be privatised as soon as possible, to save the tax payers money going to a dying airline business...Sooner the better..
Sachin=GOD Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Air India should be privatised as soon as possible' date=' to save the tax payers money going to a dying airline business...Sooner the better..[/quote'] Agreed. Even the current Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh is saying that there is no need for a national carrier. But now that the Govt has given a huge bailout to AI, I don't see any chances of privatization in the near future.
