This is why you want to have a better bowling attack than a better batting lineup

Do you know Zaheer was the highest wicket taker and Yuvraj took 15 wickets too ?
ihow come India couldn't defend 338 and 300 plus ? :cantstop: Yuvraj is hardly a "great" bowler. Zaheer was definitely not the best bowler out there. there wer emany better than him.

Exhibit #1 - Wordcup2011 in Bombay (well Final in Bombay, but take the entire WC tournament) Team with the crappiest bowling attack amongst all won it. Even some minnows had better bowling attack than India (and better fielding too!!)
As it happens on most occasions, you are quite clueless when it comes to commenting on matters related to cricket. Zak was the highest wicket taker in the edition, making important breakthroughs every single time his captain needed him to do something. Munaf was one of the standout bowlers of the tournament, bowling with great control and guile. And Yuvraj Singh, believe it or not, was also among the top wicket takers in the tournament, taking a 5 wicket haul against Pakistan along the way. Our only 2 non-performers were - 1) Sreesanth and 2) Chawla. Pretty much everyone else pulled their weight through.

On dead tracks' date= places where bowlers were carted to all parts of the grounf even the bowling of England was unable to take out Ireland. Even and Ireland VS Dutch battle was high scoring. well ofcourse, the bowlers bowled well, Zaheer khan and UV specially. Now in T20 WC the hopes are so SLIM
So having good bowling alone is not enough .

RCB at least had Gayle' date=' CSK have none. Faf started off well but cooled off (got injured too) in the last few matches and eventually got the axe.[/quote'] but you have Conda :dontknow:

49.1 Khan to Perera, 1 run, 74.6 mph, Zaheer bowls one full on the stump, and Thisara smokes it down to long off, absolutely smoked 49.2 Khan to Jayawardene, 1 run, 87.7 mph, Zaheer follows Mahela down the leg side with a yorker, but Mahela is in such good touch that he manages to squeeze it late to short third man 49.3 Khan to Perera, FOUR, serves up a low full around off stump, and thisara makes some room, and whacks it past extra cover for another boundary, that is what you do in the batting Powerplay, take full toll of it 49.4 Khan to Perera, FOUR, 85.4 mph, that is why Kula came in ahead of Thisara, who can take off in these end overs, gets a full delivery, and launches it with a powerful swing, and the ball just beats a leaping mid on 49.5 Khan to Perera, 2 runs, 75.3 mph, super commitment from Mahela, it was slogged wide of deep midwicket, Mahela pushed Thisara for the second, and backed up his intentions with a screaming dive to get in the crease 49.6 Khan to Perera, SIX, 78.6 mph, 63 runs off the batting Powerplay, 22 off 9 for Thisara, gets a fuller delivery in his swinging zone, swivels, and hammers it over deep square leg for maximum

A team with good batting and great bowling will do better than a team with great batting and good bowling most of the times .

And you forgot 3 consecutive maidens in the beginning. Another selective quoting. :hysterical::hysterical:

Dhoni has lost his mojo. I seriously don't like to see CSK in the playoffs. We're gonna get beaten by the bambis for the third time this season :((

Mr Geography, Except for ZK the team we carried had low or lowest-class bowlers. They may have managed to pull off somethings, but they were one of the most horrible bowling attacks of the tournament. No one except for ZK can be considered a class bowler by any standards. Yuvi taking wickets helped us but when you penciled him in WC2011 it was not for his wicket taking skills. Good for India it so happened. We could not even defend high totals when our batsmen scored them in WC2011. We still won WC2011 which means we somehow took wickets, yes - that does not change the fact that its a crappy bowling attack in Team India.

But if you have batsmen like Chitnis' date=' Tiwary, can you win it. that s the question you suggest as if you can with total noobs if you have great bowling line up. No you can't . You need half decent batsmen to put up a total. Ajmal and Gul played for the same team. Remember how Hussey manhandled Ajmal. Anyone can smash any bowler in this T20 format at the international level.May be in IPL it is different. Steyn himself lost couple of matches for his team bowling at the death. Morkel until this season was a very poor bowler. Malinga and Narine are exceptions.[/quote'] Agreed that you still need quality with both bat and ball but my point is that a team with great bowling and half-decent batting will do better than a team with great batsmen and half-decent bowling. As for Ajmal/Gul & Hussey, yes Hussey did collar Ajmal but that was a one-off and could happen. But overall look at Pakis' record in T20s and it's due to their bowling in that format. Gul is an outstanding bowler in T20s but is an average bowler in other formats and Pakis' performance reflects the same.

SA has that.. don't say India had the best bowling line up in the world.cup Nehra leaked runs left right in the final over. Bhajji was useless totally. INdia hd to depend on part timers.

VVS, you're my man but I have to say - Your memory seems to have failed you this time around. Zak was probably the bowler of the tournament, bringing India back into games repeatedly. For example, it was Zak's spell that turned the game around in our tie against England. Andrew Strauss was coasting along and England were set for an easy win, when Zak's spell single-handedly turned that match into a tie. Against Australia in the semis, at a crucial stage of the game, it was Zak's spell one more time with the late ball again (remember that beauty to bowl Mike Hussey thru bat and pad?), that put the breaks on their scoring and kept them to 260. In the finals again, he was the one who provided us with the opening breakthru after they had gotten off to a semi-solid start.

SA has everything They have surprlus of high quality bowlers. Even spin options are good Yet they don't win. Why? Because they fail in mental aspect. Despite having a great bowling line up (in top 2 or 3 consistently in the world) they never won because they just choke out of nowhere.

Yes and SA got humiliated 8-0 like India in test. And there is also a thing called choking which you associate with South Africans.

But my point is was steyn worse than zak? was Malinga worse than zak? Was Gul worse than Zak.. Zak was good for India. but that doesn't mean he is better than all the other bowlers.

India was an exception to the rule of winning the tourney with one of the poorer attacks, but if you look historically at the 10 World Cups you will see that other than SL in 96 and India in 2011 all other WC winning teams had a pretty good bowling attack. Even the SL 96 WC team had Murali, Dharamsena, Vaas etc. who were pretty good in the conditions. As for India in 2011 Zak was at his peak - good with the new ball and with the old and taking wkts when India needed wkts. Yuvraj was the difference maker in the middle as he took wkts and controlled RR in the middle overs. And others like Ashwin, Munaf, Nehra supported them quite well. They were not that great but not so poor either. But still it was one of the very rare instances of a team with poor bowling attack winning the tourney and is not a formula which wins you too many WCs.

Once again, your cluelesness is all to obvious. We have lost a sum total of 2 ODI games in the last 2 years at home. You dont do that by having a mediocre bowling attack.
