Crookbond Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 If you seriously want an onliine newspaper without all those crazy ads and tabloid crap then go to http://www.thehindu.com/ :nice:
Sachin=GOD Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Times has never been India's best newspaper. In the south it was' date=' is, and will always be second to The Hindu. In the East, Telegraph and Statesman were always ahead. In the North and West Indian Express was as good as Times. So as such Times was never the best paper pan India[/quote'] TOI used to be a very good paper from the late 70s to early 90s with Girilal Jain, Dileep Padgaonkar and KH Dua as editors. But all of them were unceremoniously sacked. Now the owners only focus on profits and they do a damn good job of earning profits.
Sehwag1830 Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 The best online newspaper is first post. Nowhere you see direct criticism of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi as in this paper http://www.firstpost.com/
jf1gp_1 Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 It seems that the priorities of TOI's owners have changed in the last 10-12 years from providing good journalism to earning more profits. It used to be India's best paper till the 80s but now the owners are much more concerned about profits and hence so many Ads. yes ads are annoying but lets be fair, every website needs a source of revenue to keep it running; , i bet they will lose 90% of its existing traffic if they made it adv free but paid site
The Outsider Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 I haven't been on their website for 6 years and counting (except through inadvertently clicking on some link).
Desi Cartman Posted May 26, 2012 Author Posted May 26, 2012 @OP... adblockplus FTW.. Now, its there for chrome too.. but I experienced a bit of slowness.. so disabled it...on FFox it works fine. Last time I checked was few months ago and there was no good ad blocker for flash on chrome, I'll try it again.

And despite the Ads TOI is the world's no 1 English paper in terms of circulation and the TOI website is the no 1 news website in India.
Desi Cartman Posted May 26, 2012 Author Posted May 26, 2012 TOI used to be a very good paper from the late 70s to early 90s with Girilal Jain' date=' Dileep Padgaonkar and KH Dua as editors. Now the owners only focus on profits and they do a damn good job of earning profits.[/quote'] The thing is that no newspaper in the world makes money from online edition, you just cant as content is expensive and no one/most people would like to pay. They tried to create subscription. For epaper but due to competition they had to change it. Ndtv doesn't have as many ads, they dont even have print edition but still they maintain it well so why can't toi, anyways they are not spending millions to write articles about sex positions and most of their articles are questions anyway like "will bjp win?" , "can sonia fire xxx ?" /rant
Crookbond Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Once the TOI-let paper even completely plagiarized an news article from Faking News. :cantstop:
Sachin=GOD Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 The Times of India just instituted a bizarre Twitter and Facebook policy Hundreds of journalists working at the Times of India and its sister publications have received a peculiar request from their employer: hand over your Twitter and Facebook passwords and let us post for you. Even after you leave the company. Under a contract unveiled to employees last week, Bennett, Coleman and Company Ltd—India’s largest media conglomerate and publisher of the Times of India, Economic Times, among many other properties—told staffers they are not to post any news links on their personal Twitter and Facebook accounts. This runs counter to many social-media policies in newsrooms across the world, which often encourage journalists to share content widely. But BCCL, as the company is known, is telling journalists that they must start a company-authorised account on various social media platforms. They also have the option of converting existing personal social media accounts to company accounts. On these, they are free to discuss news and related material. The company will possess log-in credentials to such accounts and will be free to post any material to the account without journalists’ knowledge. It is now also mandatory to disclose all personal social-media accounts held by the journalist to the company. Midway through the two-page contract: The posts made by you on User Account shall contain news and other related material and may also contain any personal material and interaction, which we encourage. You shall inform the company about your personal user accounts and the same will be allowed by the company, subject to you refraining from posting any news and other related material on the same. The personal user account shall always belong to you and carried by you in the event of any severance of your contract with the company. At your request, while in employment, your personal user account may be converted into a company User Account. It is specifically agreed that on such conversion, all intellectual property rights in such converted User Account shall be vested in the company. The company shall be the owner of the access passwords, username and associated email address for the User Account, which shall be used by you on behalf of the Company to make posts. Company retains administration rights of the User Account, which shall be made accessible to the Company on demand. It is understood that sharing of such details of the User Account shall be an integral part of your contract with the Company and shall also be necessary for processing any settlement related to termination of such Contract. The company may upload news or other material on the company User Account through any means, including automated upload streams, at its sole discretion, notwithstanding any termination of your contract with the company. http://qz.com/253025/the-times-of-india-just-instituted-a-bizarre-twitter-and-facebook-policy/ WTF news of the day...
