In fact, I get lot more information about India through them than our reactionary channels. It was unexpected considering this perception that was created that it was a mouthpiece for middle east and muslim world. In fact, I found it quite objective, including on the Iran issue. To my surprise, I just saw an old show on channel questioning the origin of Islam and tenability of the text. Didn't see this coming.

It's pretty comprehensive too unlike the Indian giants. It was unexpected considering this perception that was created that it was a mouthpiece for middle east and muslim world. In fact, I found it quite objective, including on the Iran issue. To my surprise, I just saw an old show on channel questioning the origin of Islam and tenability of the text. Didn't see this coming. This is due to the stereotypes created by the world. Russell Peters has a nice jig on it.
Crookbond Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 The fact that it's based out of Qatar helps Al Jazeera as Qatar isn't as strict a nation like Saudi Arabia. It initially started of as an Islamic mouthpiece but has expanded since then. It has many fine moments including live coverage of the war in Afghanistan [1]. It's quite a unique achievement. I haven't seen Al Jazeera but I've heard a lot about how good it is. Sadly its not available on Airtel Digital TV.

BBC and CNN/Fox all are propaganda news channels. Al Jazeera is much much better, its like Discovery/Nat Geo of News world! Also they have so much diversity from business to art to literature to food to politicis to war.

Zelch Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Agree that Al-Jaljeeera is top class when it comes to quality, content and "appearance of being balanced" just like CNN, BBC etc. But every big media house are essentially mouth pieces of their respective civilizations and are in the market to push an agenda to further their dominance. But when it comes to "unbiased" reporting on India (which should be our main concern) dont expect any mercy from AlJ...at this point their India coverage...editorial stance looks similar to that of BBC's views on India. Both BBC and AlJ blame Indians (indirectly Hindus) for any terror attacks that Pakis commit in India like the 2008 Mumbai Massacre. Its interesting that every major region in the world has their own big media that broadcast to other countries through TV, Magazines, Internet including the Chinese and now even the Barbarian-Arabs(For latest on barbarity look at Assad massacre of his own people) have it. America: CNN UK: BBC France: AFP etc Arabs, Pakis : Al Jazaaera Pakis: NDTV, BBC, Washington Post etc Chinese: CCTV India: ?

It would be hilarious if Al Jazeera English too jumps over established propaganda players in shaping public opinion.
