I am also hearing media reports that the online hate mongers have concocted a nude photograph of Sen's daughter.
Any links to these media reports ? She is a (bold) actress so she might have had a photo or two floating around.

There may be but my point was directed towards keyboard warriors who are using it as fodder to attack Amartya Sen which is quite deplorable IMO.

I thought you were saying that people have concocted or morphed her photos. That's a crime.

from wikipedia. In 2012 speaking on the anti-corruption movement led by veteran social activist Anna Hazare he alleged "He himself is involved in several cases of corruption. This has been proved by the apex court appointed Justice Sawant Commission. The commission found that Anna runs several NGOs and money was spent illegally for his birthday celebration,"'[4] He alleged that the so-called "Team Anna" is composed of "armchair fascists, overground Maoists, closet anarchists funded by invisible donors,".[5] Hazare sent a legal notice to Tewari for defamation stating that Tewari had committed an offence under sections 499 and 500 of Indian Penal Code and called him to "apologise with written application by him and on behalf of his party (Indian National Congress), undertaking not to commit such false imputations and defamatory statements about Hazare in future".[6] Later Tewari regretted his statement stating that much is said in political debate.

The problem with Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalism http://www.firstpost.com/politics/the-problem-with-narendra-modis-hindu-nationalism-986531.html

“I am nationalist. I’m patriotic. Nothing is wrong. I am born Hindu. Nothing is wrong. So I’m a Hindu nationalist. So yes, you can say I’m a Hindu nationalist because I’m a born Hindu. – Narendra Modi Narendra Modi said he is a Hindu nationlist because he was born Hindu. By that logic, someone born a Parsi automatically becomes a Parsi nationalist; a Christian becomes a Christian nationalist and a Muslim a Muslim nationalist. :giggle: But conflating these two aspects of a person’s identity is problematic and needs to be unpacked. ‘Being Hindu’ or ‘being Parsi’ does not necessarily add anything to the term nationalist. However, if Modi believes that by definition, a Hindu nationalist is different from a Parsi nationalist because a Hindu is different from a Parsi, then by definition Modi does not represent those who are not born Hindu. Purely because of the arbitrariness of birth, Modi would be creating a divide between different groups who are all legitimate citizens of the country. If this the case, then it is effectively an admission of sectarianism for only those born Hindu can share the same vision as Modi. On the other hand, if the term Hindu or Christian adds nothing to the term nationalist. If it is simply Modi putting together two facets of his identity, then the term Hindu Nationalist becomes meaningless. Modi is both Hindu and nationalist, but the individual terms have no relation to one another aside from happening to refer to the same person. His “Hindu-ness”, as it were, would therefore be separate from his nationalism. If this is what Modi means, then he should make it clear that his being Hindu does not have anything to do with his being a nationalist. In this case, his idea of India would not be coloured by his religion and would include those who are outside his religion. There is no contradiction in being Parsi and wanting a strong India. There is no contradiction in being Christian and wanting economic growth. And there is no contradiction in being Muslim, and wanting good governance and a decisive leader. The conflation of religion and nationality is also problematic because a person can change his or her religion while retaining the same attitude towards his or her country. A person who coverts from Hindu to Christian does not need to change his or her view of India. You or I can just as easily clamour for 8% GDP growth from a church as we can a temple or a mosque. None of this is to say that religion cannot or should not be part of a person’s identity. But how we commune with God is often a person matter and does not, or should not, affect how others choose to do the same. How we see the country is, however, a different matter. A sense of national identity – is a shared construct that should resonate across religions, geographies and economic status. If Modi represents such a construct, then the voters will respond to it. If he does not, the voters will let him know that too. But before this can happen, it is imperative that Modi makes this distinction clear: If being Hindu is an essential part of his nationalism, then he personifies a particular vision of India that excludes those who are not Hindu. As equal citizens of India though, we all have the right to know one way or the other.

^^^ The problem with the article is that it assumes that being Hindu means it's all about only Hindus that matters. For starters, anyone can be proud of their religion. We have Muslims politicians such as Salman Khurshid who talks about being Muslims. And no one raised any objective to that. Then, we have had our PM himself talked about how Muslims have first right on the nation's resources. That is surely communal and selective politics. And finally, if your religion talks about being tolerant to other religions as also stated by Gandhi, it means it is all inclusive.

Muslims are still better off in Gujarat In India, the minority population is merely a vote bank for most political parties. The BJP too tried to woo them. The party is projecting Modi as its prime ministerial candidate for general elections of 2014 and is likely to announce his name shortly. BJP intends to cash in on his popularity. As for those who try to tarnish Modi’s image by accusing him of doing injustice to the minority community in Gujarat, it needs to be said that the condition of Muslims, both on economic and social fronts, is much better in Gujarat than in the rest of the country. According to the Sachar committee report, monthly per capita income of Muslims in rural Gujarat is Rs 668. This is Rs 24 higher than the same for Hindus in rural Gujarat (Rs 644), Rs 141 higher than the same for SCs (Rs 527), Rs 74 higher than the OBC figure (Rs 594) and Rs 115 higher than the per month per-capita income of Muslims in rural India (Rs 553). While in urban Gujarat, per capita income of Muslims is Rs 875 which is Rs 71 higher than the per capita income of Muslims in urban India (Rs 804). The Sachar committee, appointed by prime minister Manmohan Singh in 2005, was commissioned to prepare a report on the social, economic and educational condition of the Muslim community of India. According to the India Human Development Report, percentage of Muslim households in Gujarat with improved sources of drinking water facility is 97.7 %, which is 4.6 percentage points higher than that of the overall state average (93.1%) and 4.9 percentage points higher than that of all Muslim household in India (92.8.%). The literacy rate for Muslims in Gujarat is 73.5 percentage which is 8.7 percentage points higher than the national average Literacy rate (64.8%). Moreover, the Modi government has spent Rs 11,000 crore on Gujarat's Sagarkhedu Yojna for comprehensive development of the state’s coastal belt and Muslim fishermen are major beneficiaries. A new package of Rs 21,000 crore has been announced for this year also. Modi during his election rallies in across country will definitely show the real picture of Muslims' condition in Gujarat. If Gujarat's Muslims perform well, why can’t those of the rest of country? In this year’s budget, finance minister P Chidambaram has allocated Rs 3,511 crore to the minorities affairs ministry, an increase of 12 percent over the last fiscal. The amount was enhanced even though the ministry failed to utilise the funds provided in the previous budget. This shows that the Congress-led UPA government only announces schemes and fund to attract minority votes. In spite of huge amount allotments for the minority community, they are still economically backward than other sections of society like SCs and STs at all-India level. But in Gujarat, the situation is the opposite, and the Muslims are better off than other sections. A comparison with Uttar Pradesh During Mayawati’s rule in UP, she demanded reservations for Muslims in accordance with the percentage of their population. After becoming the chief minister for the first time in 1995, she had made the provision of issuing certificates to Muslims under other backward classes (OBC) category for public services, and 38 economically and socially backward classes among Muslims are getting benefit of the OBC quota in UP. Her government was providing scholarships to Muslim students and established the Kanshiram Urdu, Arabi, Farsi University. Also Muslim girl students were included in Savitri Bai Phule scheme for promoting girl child education, in which every girl student of class XI is awarded with Rs 25,000 and a bicycle. The new state government led by Akhilesh Yadav will spend Rs 1,800 crore on development programmes in the minorities-dominated pockets during 2013-14. Thus, like the central government, the UP government has only provided subsidies to the Muslims and used them as vote banks, instead of not fulfilling their actual requirements. The people of Uttar Pradesh face a very bad law and order situation. They want good governance and local employment opportunities. Neither SP not BSP can fulfill the dream of the people of this state. But Modi can replicate Gujarat's example in terms of good law and order and progress in industry and agriculture in this state as also elsewhere. Now time has come to end to vote bank politics. The voters have to choose carefully their candidate and party in the interest of whole country during forthcoming general elections.

No surprise there - there are many "problem"s with articles which are anti-Modi but all articles pro-Modi are gospel truth.

Honestly speaking right now I don't think he can be the PM candidate because he is definitely nowhere near LK Advani or Modi in terms of popularity (except in MP). But as a leader he is far ahead of Modi and if given a chance at some point, IMO he will be a great PM.
