I don't get it' date=' all the BJP leaders come from the same school of thought right? All the big leaders have defended Modi in one or other stage so if all the leaders have same kind of thinking how does it matter that who is their PM candidate.[/quote'] at the end of the day it will matter a lot as to who the PM candidate is because BJP, more than Cong, needs pre-poll allies but as you can see till now, Modi not only can't attract allies but also led to JDU leaving. So if senior leaders are unhappy with Modi's hasty elevation then they are not wrong in that. I just cannot understand how is it that the leaders in Modi's favor completely fail to see the polarization that can occur or the lack of re-poll allies than will hurt the BJP - it really is astonishing to me.

Rubbbissshhhhh! Lots of **** happened when Vajpayee was a BJP hotshot and when he was PM. He couldn't prevent it, how will much lesser leaders like Sushma/Jaitley do so ? Allies will come after the polls provided there is a majority. The idea is to get the latter and see if Modi can help achieve that (frankly, I'm not sold on the guy but this is his chance to prove the critics wrong).

From post 1 for thelast 2 years the same debate. They said BJP would be foolish to project him as their leader. BJP went ahead and made him the campaign chief. They said alright but he won't be named the PM candidate, BJP has almost finalized the decision and the announcement is a mere formality. Maybe the party knows a thing or two better than someone on ICF? Now as an anti-Modi voter (and primarily a BJP hater voter) who is convinced Modi kills BJP chances, I will be happy, right? But that group keep regurgitating the same thing in post after post.
Because I am not a BJP hater, but a Modi hater. I am also sick of the current government and want a better alternative which a Modi led BJP does not provide and hence I am frustrated.

in 1999 with Vajpayee as the leader, BJP contested 339 out of 543 seats and gave over 200 to pre-poll allies and only then did it manage to win 182 for itself - currently BJP has only 2 allies (Shiv Sena and SAD) who can actually win a few seats. In such a situation how exactly do you think BJP will get enough numbers to be in a position to attract post-poll allies?

and the 100,000 who came to see him yesterday who paid from their own pockets are idiots as well. you can go a bit further like the #ENREGA crowd who say APCO sponsored the whole thing :hysterical: its funny how you accuse him of not delivering seats for campaigns where he iisnt even the projected leader in contention.... this is like saying that sonia, who campaigned in Bihar and UP State election, where Congress got the real bytchslap, is primarily responsible for the loss in those states and not the local party cadre. You could blame Rahul for being Congress Gen Sec in charge of UP but not Sonia. Why choose to apply different standard to Modi?
Then why was he campaigning in those 180 seats if he was supposed to have no effect? Your comparison with Sonia Gandhi is stupid because I am not the one claiming people of India voted for her because of good governance or some fictitious 'India Model' like Modi bhakts do for Gujarat.

Why is my comparison with Sonia stupid? She's a national leader who goes to campaign for these same seats with MGNREGA, Aadhar scheme, RTE, and now the latest upcoming travesty FSB as her party's trump cards .... Of course, if none of those work, its "Maut ka saudagar".... He's a leader sent by his party to campaign in these seats, just like Swaraj, Jaitley, Gadkari, etc. he neither deserves credit for winning/losing a seat where he isnt even the projected leader for gods sake. that should be accredited to the local/state party cadre in charge of the particular region

BJP got 16 seats in 2009... the highest BJP has ever gotten in Gujarat is 20. How is that a bad thing? Also' date= for all those who say Modi has saffronized Gujarat and there is no more democracy and Gujaratis are just idiots who vote for Modi's fake governance... there is a healthy opposition to him as well. All these BS talk of him being a fascist is absolute nonsense. You cant have it both ways PS: in 2004/2009 LS elections Advaniji was projected leader :--D
IIRC BJP won 15 in 2009 and later on won 1 more in a by-election. If Modi is (as his Bhakts keep on repeating) the most popular BJP leader from Gujarat and Gujarat's best CM then why couldn't he win 20 (or more) - and that too in 2 elections? from "Modi has demolished Cong in Gujarat" during discussions about the Assembly elections to "there is healthy opposition" during discussion about Lok Sabha elections :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: we both know that Modi was the leader in Gujarat and the entire campaign in Gujarat was run by him/his men. All the tickets were decided by him and many senior leaders were also dropped. So don't give this excuse.

SG these discussions are all there in the previous pages of this thread. You don't fight elections with pre poll allies in mind. Get to 180+ and then see allies coming to you in the name of anti Congressism. Modi gives the BJP the best chance to top 180 for the ability to make a difference of 25-30 seats in Bihar and UP alone. Congress may also in return gain a few seats but BJP's gains far outweighs Congress' gain as Modi elevation makes this a Modi vs anti Modi election. Right now, BJP has 22% votes, it needs to get that up to at least 27-28% to be able to reach 180+. Modi gives it the chance to add 2-3% vote share on his own, and no other leader be it Advani, Sushma or Jaitley has that ability. Another huge factor is his popularity with the cadre. For fighting thenationa elections, you need a proper booth management strategy in place to connect to voters at the booth level and for that you need an energized cadre. And thats where Modi scores over others. Next is the 'resourcefulness', ability to add to party funds. Like it or not, Modi right now has the ability to add maximum to the party war chest for fighting the elections. And that does add weight to his candidature. There are question marks on his national appeal and his ability to win seats but thats a risk that has to be taken. With any other leader at the helm, BJP does not look like winning more than 150-155 seats. Example of 2009 is before us where a totally insipid campaign was run by Advani .With Modi at the helm, it has a chance of 180+.

So compensate ho jayega. :winky: Waise as a fringe voter (and not a committed BJP voter, voted for MMS in last election :(( ), I will also judge the BJP and Modi on the campaign they run and the kind of vision documents they produce.

so getting 115+/182 for 4 elections is not being demolished? :hysterical: when i say healthy opposition, i mean the situation is not like the one portrayed by chipku, where modi is supposed to be this hitler-like figure whom the masses follow blindly.. plus, there is a difference in assembly elections and LS elections... the BIGGEST DIFFERENCE is who you vote for.... its time for you to first stop excusing Advaniji's failure.. the man got BJP down to 116 seats.... now thats an achievement :hatsoff:

Who are the other contenders? Advani who has already been thoroughly rejected and is well past it now. Sushmaji? Not very popular among the BJP cadre primarily because she's perceived to be too soft on the Gandhi family. Jaitley is more of a strategist and not at all a mass leader. Biggest failure of both Sushma and Jaitley is they have been unable to pin down the govt despite its failures piling up day after day. That leaves Shivraj Singh Chauhan who is a rising star and in due course will be the BJP's national leader but not in this election. Others like Raman Singh, Vasundhara Raje are not yet national figures. In another post have also given some factors I believe why Modi is BJP's best bet in 2014.

I don't care! You brought it here, since you believe so. I was there in 2002 and it was quite bad & could have been much worse. Regardless, I was unhappy and voted against the administration for two terms. I'll take my informed on the ground opinion of more than a decade over yours.

its not stupid because you havent given any evidence as to why Modi's campaigning in other states, where he is not the projected leader, is any different from Sonia campaigning in the same fashion.
