seedhi Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 1. 16.63% poverty percentage is UNACCETABLE for a supposedly developed state. Especially considering poverty threshold being extremely low( Rs10,17,20,30 or whatever). 2. You said Gujarat percentage is acceptable since guj. has relatively high poverty line. Thats indeed a pathetic 'explanation' and public ko chewtiya banane ka attempt. 3. All india poverty rate in 2004-05 is 37.2% and in 2011-12, it is 21.92%. Thats 41.1% reduction. In gujarat , poverty rate in 2004-05 is 31.6% and in 2011-12, it is 16.63%. Thats 47.4% reduction. As we can see, there's not much difference in All india performance and Gujarat's performance. Plus there are many states which have done better than Gujarat in poverty reduction. Meri jaan, apne preconceived notions ko overcome karo. And like I said, HDI data is even worse. You said that Modi's rule has not at all helped the poor in Gujarat. The figures shows that from 2004-05 to 2011-12, Gujarat has reduced the poverty substantially. Gujarat has performed quite a bit better than the all India average. Yes, there are other states who have performed better but your claim that Modi's rule has not helped the poor is completely baseless.
ravishingravi Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 The Narendra Modi thread Am I fooling or are you trying to fool the public by placing incomplete data. Here, this the poverty estimate based on the Tendulkar methodology for 2009-10. It also contains figures for 2004-05: http://planningcommission.nic.in/news/press_pov1903.pdf You have already posted the estimates for 2011-12. According to the Tendulkar methodology, the Gujarat poverty rate is: 31.6 in 2004-05 23.0 in 2009-10 16.63 in 2011-12 Now you tell me who is the chewtiya in claiming that Modi's rule has not helped the poor in Gujarat ?? Hmm ! That closes that.
randomGuy Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 @seedhi, if we exclude certain worst performing states, guj. Performance may actually come out to be worse than rest of india

This doesn't make sense. We are not even a developed country yet. We are talking in relative terms. 2. Poverty is not acceptable, whatever percentage. But the movement in figures is enough to show progress. 3. 6 % is a lot in actual numbers. Plus I dare say, he is not running away from his job and service to those who remain poor. Can't say the same for Kejriwal.
randomGuy Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 1. This doesn't make sense. We are not even a developed country yet. We are talking in relative terms. my point is - can we call a state with 16.6% poverty developed, given the low poverty threshold? It is on 15th or 16th rank. Leave Andhra(9%) and TN(11%), even a Rajasthan has 14%, Maha. has 17% and WB has 19% poverty. 3. 6 % is a lot in actual numbers. Refer to my last post, UP has 37% poverty in 2004 and 30% in 2011. If we subtract UP from Rest of India, RoI performance and Gujarat performance is around the same. Plus I dare say, he is not running away from his job and service to those who remain poor. Can't say the same for Kejriwal. Leave that for AAP thread.
bulbul Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 RG,don't say what to write in which thread.AAP suppoorters doesnt have that credibility to ask other posters such things :icflove:
randomGuy Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 RG' date='don't say what to write in which thread.AAP suppoorters doesnt have that credibility to ask other posters such things :icflove:[/quote'] ok. wont ask. I will be inclined to answer in AAP thread. pls take my remark as implying that.
zumi Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Taking on Modi and Gujarat armed with stats to debunk Modi's development will end in failure. The Congress have been trying for the last five years, and have been left with egg on their face. On one hand Congis cry foul of Gujarat's poor development record, whilst on the other the Central Government keep handing out awards to the Gujarat state government. It's now ironic that the AAP are following the same Congress tune to attack Modi on his development record. Both Congress and AAP would be better off promoting their own idealogy and future plans than targeting Modi's development record and how many muslims he killed at every chance they are asked something about Modi.

(Neutral) poverty numbers(as shown above) and HDI numbers (even worse) for Guj. are actually quite unimpressive yaar. Nothing to 'prove' here. EDIT - even when i was a bjp voter (till Jan-2014), I accepted that fact.

Yoda-esque Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 First Congress called him chaiwalla. After Modi started chai pe charcha, they are telling that he was never a chaivala but a canteen contractor

Sachin=GOD Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Congress' poor campaign strategy, lack of leadership and own goals really are helping BJP a lot...
Sachin=GOD Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 one benefit of this whole AAP saga has been that there's been less of Modi parroting the same things on news channels :two_thumbs_up:

EDIT - even when i was a bjp voter (till Jan-2014), I accepted that fact. Maybe the numbers are nothing impressive, but they are not dismal either. And yes Modi has good PR to put the development message through. But what people also see is a competent leader able to offer solutions rather than BS populist appeasement. And on AAP, they missed a golden opportunity to back their talk. They got a chance to govern a small wealthy state, take it to the next level and turn into a shining example but like cowards ran away from the challenge. And now AAP act like hypocrites when the likes of Modi advertise their legacy of development whilst AAP threw away a chance to build their own legacy. And on Congress, why don't they ever project likes Chavan, Chandy, or Hooda as potential PM canditates to counter Modi?
