If he really is a "National" leader with presence throughout the country then his mere standing from a seat should be reason enough for BJP to win it or to at least have a fighting chance. Why is he looking for safe seats? A few days ago I read somehwere that Bhairon Singh Shekhawat had such stature and respect in Rajasthan that for years he used to contest 2 seats in Assembly Elections - one safe seat and one unwinnalbe seat - some times he did end up losing the tough seat but mostly he won and thus added a really tough seat to the party's tally. Tell me which one will inspire the UP BJP leaders/workers more: 1. The PM candidate comes to UP to contest elections and chooses one of the safest seats in the state for himself. 2. The PM candidate comes to UP to contest elections and chooses a seat which is considered really tough for the BJP. These leaders literally built the UP BJP from scratch - they were there for decades before the BJP even came into existence, they were there when the BJP was created, they were there still there fighting with Cong and other opposition parties for votes when BJP got a mere 2 Lok Sabha seats Nationally, they were there when the party got its highest ever tally in UP in the 90s and they were there when it got 10 seats in 2009 - I would think that the least they deserve is some respect from the PM candidate and National Prez. Till date Modi and Rajnath Singh haven't talked personally to Joshi and Tandon respectively regarding their interest in Varanasi and Lko. Instead, there have been Modi/Rajnath supporters fighting proxy wars on their behalf in Varanasi/Lko - is this the way to treat the senior leaders or to solve an issue like seat selection? Both Modi and Rajanth have again and again antagonized, ignored and isolated the seniors in the party. It is very much obvious (even to the senior leaders) that the baton has passed on to the next gen in the BJP so all the new leadership has to do is to make the senior feel that their voice is still heard and that their experience is still useful for the party - instead, they have to fight with Modi/Rajnath even for their own seats. Sad situation indeed.

Come on this term 'Modi wave' is media creation, Modi naming as PM candidate had rejuvenated the BJP grass root workers which has lead making sure all his rallies are well attended. Better campaigning, etc. when did Modi proclaim there is 'Modi wave', he sometimes mentions there is wind of change, with BJP leading it. When have even senior BJP leaders mentioned 'Modi wave'? Jaitley has always stressed vote for BJP.

You do realize that no decision is actually made. And if anything, being a Gujarat CM, he ought to contest from Gujarat. Rest is all speculation.
