GautiMaan Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Lets discuss this earnest. An 8-0 humiliation does require a thorough review, however blaming msd for everything that went wrong will be unjust. However it is true that we had the opposition on the mat a few times and we let the game slip away.In tests i feel Dhoni's defensive strategies wont hold anymore and it is time for a change, with gauti the most likely replacement, sehwag is not an option In ODI's the matter gets a bit more complicated as he has been a hero for us,however i feel his team selections bear more scrutiny and perhaps the selectors should have more say in it.I think he should be kept on as ODI captain.
Needforspeed Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 We need change in Tests...but who will do the job?
GautiMaan Posted June 4, 2012 Author Posted June 4, 2012 ^ I know gambhir's performance batting wise has not been good enough in the last year, however he is our best choice
Pagalpanti Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Unless they appoint someone young guy like Kohli there aren't many who can replace Dhoni. Cuz just like Dhoni's spot is in question for tests, Gambhir and Sehwag have been more woeful in the 2 series In Eng/Aus tour: Dhoni avg 26.83 - 3 50's Gambhir avg 20.21 only 1 50 Sehwag avg 19.91 - 2 50's

GautiMaan Posted June 4, 2012 Author Posted June 4, 2012 Best choice based on what? He is the only experienced player with a brain, also won the ipl. Now u will prolly say an ipl victory does not prove anything but didnt msd become captain after success in t20
putrevus Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Unless Gambhir shows he is not a FTB like Sehwag and can actually handle bat overseas, there is no point in having another non performer in playing 11 just because he is captain of the team. Dhoni cannot bat overseas but can claim that he is the best wicket keeper around for team India. He becomes captain by default as there no one to replace him.
Number Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 I don't even care now. But one thing is that Dhoni was overrated and was actually a poor captain and has got mercilessly exposed in the last 9-10 months. Not just tests, even in away ODIs his leadership was rubbish. Though looking at his contribution as a player, he'll be almost irreplaceable for India. :hatsoff:
cowboysfan Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Gg is not a good captain and cant stay healthy, pass.

Gambhir was one of the sole reasons we drew in sa,and in england he got 2 matches and was injured in both in 2nd innings ,yes he had a bad aus tour but he wil comeback.Regarding dhoni saha is better keeper than dhoni against spinners or pacers and looks better bet than dhoni to score a few runs abroad.
CSK Fan Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Gg is not a good captain and cant stay healthy' date='pass.[/quote'] Who is talking about GG?
putrevus Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Gambhir was one of the sole reasons we drew in sa' date='and in england he got 2 matches and was injured in both in 2nd innings ,yes he had a bad aus tour but he wil comeback.Regarding dhoni saha is better keeper than dhoni against spinners or pacers and looks better bet than dhoni to score a few runs abroad.[/quote'] FYI I am a huge Gambhir fan I always thought he was way better than two trick pony A.Cook but we have to be fair the runs he scored in SA were when both the pitches first and third test were more due to the pitches. The wickets had become flat if I am not wrong even Dhoni scored some runs in second innings of first test. Gambhir was worked out by Morkel and Steyn even in India also, regarding England tour I never blame anyone, Indian team was ill prepared and jaded were playing without proper rest with crazy schedule.Gambhir like all others did not show up. Aussie tour is biggest disappointment for me in regards to Gambhir, he needed to step up but failed miserably, he never took the next step which separates good player to great one after 2008 when he looked he was on his to way to greatness.I want him to succeed but you cannot reward a player after mediocre performance. As for Saha he has done nothing to show so far that he is better bat than Dhoni in tests, he looked lost in the two tests he played and as far as ODIs Saha cant tie Dhoni's shoe laces. So on what grounds Saha should be given preference over Dhoni. To force into a team you need to have something special and Saha has nothing.
cowboysfan Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Who is talking about GG? Its mentioned in this thread a few times, there are no other candidates right now.
Ultimate_Game Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Not right now but Gambhir should be the vice-captain in all formats.
saneindian Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 4-5 years is a long enough time for an Indian skipper and MSD has run that course now. Should give up the captaincy voluntarily and play as a normal keeper batsman. As we start the home leg of a 3 years period when we play 10 tests at home and almost 18-19 tests away from home, it is important to get a new captain and have him build and prepare the team for the challenges abroad.
Sidhoni Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Unless they appoint someone young guy like Kohli there aren't many who can replace Dhoni. cowboysfan Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 I thin Kohli should be groomed as our next captain but not for another 2 years.
kabira Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 I have always believed captaincy has an expiry date...Its not an easiest job especially in this era. Dhoni should give up captaincy atleast from Test matches. He has done great job etc. But his expiry is up. captain should be captain for maximum 4 to 5 years...thats where Ricky Ponting got it wrong, should have given captaincy in 2010. Gambhir should be the next captain, atleast for next 3 years.
