Even if two people aren't on talking terms when there are XI, it can be ignored, possibly. When you have a team of two and both aren't on talking terms, you really see it best to make them play together, especially when they have failed together the last 4 olympics?

I don't want them together but I also don't want people who influence selection by arm twisting and cry-baby tactics.

Since Bhupathi and Paes decided to split up last december, and since Bhupathi and Bopanna started playing together in January, there ranking has dropped drastically from top 5 to over 15. Now they can't even make it to olympics unless they pair up with Paes who can carry any player with him to Olympics since he is qualified as per rankings. Bhupathi should know where he stands today. Paes actually picked him. He could have picked Somdev, or Yuki or even Rohan. Instead Bhupathi wants AITA to send Bhupathi-Bopanna, which is ridiculous. Also another catch, if Bhupathi isn't picked in Men's doubles, he can't play in mixed doubles either with Sania Mirza in Olympics. Thats the rule I think the compromise will be done and we will end up sending to shyt teams as in Bhupathi-Bopanna and Leander will end up picking an Injured Somdev or Yuki. I would rather go with one quality team which might win, than 2 teams Bhupathi-bOPANNA haven't shown any promises in grandslam.

What qualification this guy Khanna has to select the doubles team...? Having played Tennis for years, and represented India multiple times, Mahesh deserves to pick his team mate with whom he is comfortable with, and has a more chance of winning..Players are not robots to expect them to win medals with any possible combination...In Mahesh's own words . As you will no doubt agree, doubles tennis is a team event. A doubles team is not merely a sum of two individuals, however highly ranked they might be. Understanding and synergies between team-mates is crucial. A successful doubles team is one that actively competes together, trains together, trusts each other and is committed to the partnership - the best teams share a certain chemistry. On all these counts, we strongly believe that these key ingredients make our team a very strong contender for the London Olympics and the best team that our country can put forward. Send two teams for God's sake, let Paes play with Som/Yuki..

If AITA felt Paes and Bhupati represent the best chance at a medal, they should have used everything in their power to ensure they team up for at least a year before the olympics. It turns out the Leander did not wish to team up with Mahesh. I wouldn't go into personal equations but, giving the professionals the benefit of doubt, the pairing of Rohan and Mahesh seemed to be the only one that worked among Indians once it was formed. Not once did AITA raise an eyebrow on this pairing which, very clearly, was aimed at the Olympics. Why else would Rohan break up a successful combination with Qureshi? In my opinion, Leander is playing a one upmanship game using his clout in AITA. Come on Leander, the writing is on the wall - neither Rohan nor Mahesh want to play with you. You have been my hero since childhood. I still vividly recall your heroic Davis Cup performances. But this has reached the limit. No one doubts your commitment to Indian tennis while playing. But the same commitment should have been shown a year ago in picking a partner to play with leading up to the Olympics.

My suggestion is to ban Bopanna and Bhupati for showing discontent to AITA's decision. Why are players asked whether they want to play with a specific person? They are playing for their country and there are millions of hopes from them to get a Olympic medal. They should just agree to the decision and put their personal problems behind when representing the nation.

While I was apparently the partner of choice for all other concerned parties, I was told that the AITA's original decision to exclude me and overlook my pairing with Mahesh Bhupathi was a 'unanimous' one, given that the Olympics needed 'veteran champions' to compete at that level. The irony of this situation was not lost on me. With all respect and humility, I have been unable to accept AITA's offer and have communicated my decision to them in writing this morning. Given the public nature of this personal decision, I felt it was important for me to share my perspective. I have always dreamt of representing India at the Olympics, and I have worked diligently throughout my career overcoming numerous obstacles. In every athlete's career, there are a number of junctures where one feels extremely conflicted and unsure whether one is making the right choice. My decision today is not one of them. In October 2011, I broke up an extremely successful partnership with Aisam Qureshi as I believed that Olympics preparedness required hard work and understanding between partners and the numerous little adjustments that make a team work. This was the toughest professional decision I have taken, as it signified an end to a great partnership and jeopardised a close friendship that was built over many years of struggle and, ultimately, success on the ATP Tour. Having been ranked No. 8 in the world last year, I could have taken a far easier route to Olympics qualification - if that was my only goal - by continuing my existing partnership and aiming for a personal top-10 ranking. However, I am an athlete who believes that outcomes are a product of process and preparation. I also believe that successful partnerships of every sort require investment of time and emotions through the ups and downs, and that sporting partnerships are no different. Since the beginning of the year, I have partnered with Mahesh Bhupathi towards playing together as at team at the Olympics. This was communicated to the AITA at every step and we were encouraged to continue to play together. Having played alongside Leander Paes only twice during my career, I recognise that as a team we are underprepared for the demands of the Olympics and, in good faith, I could not accept AITA's offer that we play together. They should just agree to the decision and put their personal problems behind when representing the nation. read Post #29 , no idea whose opinion it is but its a valid opinion even when Bhupathy and Paes played together for many years they are unable to win in olympics..so now how can they play together and win anything :dontknow: while Bhupathy and Bopannaa played together for some time now so may be they have better understanding that any other pair India currently having.. its good they expressed their opinions now rather than these issues coming out in games village and creating embarassment for country.. there is no rule says that just because they are playing for country they have to do all sorts of adjustments..no one does that in sports now a days

Bopanna is our best player on current form , he has to play to have any chance ...Paes-Bhupati will get knocked out in the second round to some un known team from Fiji or Cayman Islands
