Vinay's replacement doesn't even make sense! If India wanted an all-rounder they would have gone for Pathan before. What happened to the likes of Awana, Shami Ahmed, etc. Does this mean Irfan Pathan is one the top tier Indian bowlers! So what's the point of those A tours. Selectors intelligence is on par with pink ass baboons.
Please don't insult pink ass baboons :nono:

But on a serious note, this is a scandal. The following bowlers played in the recent India A tour: B Kumar (all-rounder/pace) Darekar (spin) Dinda (pace) Shami (pace) J Saxena (all-rounder/spin) P Awana (pace) Rahul Sharma (hopeless) Dinda rightly made the squad, but the next in line should have come from the above list. Maybe Awana, Shami or B Kumar. What's the point of taking a tried and failed Irfan.

Bud when our chief selector selects his son for a tour to Aus when his son can't even get into his state's Ranji team, we know where the selection committee stands. And the hilarious part was the explanation proffered by the chief selector when pressed on the issue. He, along with the other selectors, "thought" the tour consisted of odis/T20s and not 4 day matches :omg: So we have the chief selector who practices nepotism and the selection committee who doesn't even know for what they are selecting the team for:hysterical: I lost faith in BCCi and our selectors long time back. Our success is more due to luck and individuals rather than the system. BCCI and India's limited success can be attributed to the saying "even a blind bird comes across a worm occasionally". We have historically under-performed based on the talent level, love of the game and resources we have and BCCI has to take the lion's share of the blame for that. And when you hear Srinivasan and Rajiv Shukla's statements on how England got "white-washed" in odis at home and our 0-4 drubbing was avenged, and that no enquiry should happen after 0-8 we know what to expect from the people who run Indian cricket.

Thank you. Now get prepared for some death threats.

Did the selectors not watch the India A tour in WI, did they not get feedback? Was Fletcher there? Every other spinner (from both sides) had field day on that tour except for Rahul Sharma who was made to look like a rank amateur and ended up with Sami statistics. Depressing stuff from Indian selectors and coaching unit.

What are Irfan Pathan and Rahul Sharma doing in the Indian ODI squad?? My first thread on ICF and I am picking the hypocrisy at the selection of Irfan Pathan and Rahul Sharma. Irfan Pathan Irfan makes a return for umpteenth time as an "all-rounder" option. Considering the recent India A tour was suppose to provide back-up players to the first team, and funnily Irfan wasn't even in the A tour squad. Decent take by Sid Monga on Irfan: http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/player/32685.html And where is the logic. If an all-rounder was needed then why didn't selectors pick him initially. Surely if a specialist bowler got injured then the smart money is replacing him with specialist bowler: Praveen, Awana, Shami, Abu Nechim, Aaron, Pankaj, etc. Rahul Sharma Well, I have nothing to say about this guy but his selection is a scandal. Did anyone actually even bother to check out his performance in the recent India A tour on spin friendly tracks!!!

Like-for-like replacement. Trundler for trundler.
well its way better than picking bowler for batsmen like we did ...Nasir J (opening batsmen) got injured and we replace him with Aizaz Cheema (bowler) ...i guess they thought we have the legend of hafeez in our team to open with..

He hasn't been selected for test matches. He has decent list A record and did well in limited chances that he got in ODIs.

Thank god they did not name Jadeja as the replacement. Looks like MSD wasn't even a part of the decision otherwise jaddu would have come in as replacement. Anyways good chance for Irfan. Should get a few games and in good bowling conditions hopefully he will do well.
Already 3 spinners there.

So whom should we pick ahead instead of Vinay Kumar?

Vinay Kumar deserves his place. But if the selectors/Dhoni wanted an all-rounder then Pathan/Jadeja/Yusuf should have been picked ahead Vinay Kumar. Which I wouldn't agree on anyway, but the fallacy of picking Irfan to replace Vinay Kumar especially after recently concluded India A tour probably indicates no-one (making these decisions) kept an eye on "next in line" bowlers.
