Dhoni quite easily. Bevan was a shrewd accumulator and rotator of strike, but he did not have the big hitting ability needed of a classical finisher.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/65531.html (43 overs match) http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/65624.html Basically all the matches you listed finished in the last over of the match. Wuld you say bevan took matches to the last over when they should have been finished much earlier? Maybe good finishers know taking the match to last few overs gives them a good chance of winning it rather than going for glory by 44th-45th over, taking undue risks and not getting closer at all.
Its a fine line .

Is there even a need for the poll? Dhoni all the way. Like I mentioned in the other thread' date=' Bevan never had the ability to hit boundaries at will like Dhoni has. Bevan is said to be one of the best finishers but when a team requires about 80-90 off last 10, I doubt if Bevan could have done it.[/quote'] It would have been difficult for dhoni in those days on pitches with a bit of juice and hitting sixes of ambrose, walsh, donald, akram, younis, mcgrath. Also on pitches which help bowlers i would prefer dhoni to bevan even though bevan himself had problems.

Yes' date='Bevan technique is still better than dhoni.[/quote'] 2 things:1) If you felt so then you have written the wrong statement in your post. 2) Bevan's technique was an even bigger joke than Dhoni's. He had serious troubles against short pitch bowling along with the swinging/seaming deliveries. MS has never been realy bothered by the short pitched stuff.

I know he had problems against short ball but he still scored runs on pitches against better bowlers ,Dhoni seems at sea on helpful conditions. Also his fc average of 45 is very good considering the standards then.

I think its unfair to compare Bevan( V V good ODI bat and finisher) to Dhoni ( Best finisher the ODI game has seen yet). Bevan would look good against every other guy other than Dhoni.

There wasnt and there wont be a ODI package like Dhoni in cricket again. The one who keeps, captains, arguably two of the most difficult jobs in cricket, one of which is physically taxing and the other mentally taxing and still the guy maintains an average of 50 with the bat and almost always comes out trump in pressure situations. His main asset is the ability to adapt to any kind of ODI situation, which makes him stand out as an ODI batsman among the rest. Conclusion is, Dhoni is once in a lifetime ODI cricketer who is at a different level as an ODI cricketer and batsman,ye Hussey,Bevan sab kaafi piche reh gaye.

powerplays, flat patta tracks of sc, not huge boundaries(aussie ones), depleting quality of bowlers.. 4 changes from bevan era to dhoni era

Dhoni for me by a millimeter. Bevan was magnificient but was found wanting against short stuff (luckily which he didn't get much, as bouncer rule came after his retirement). Tlaking of comparisons, MSDs 51.7 @ 88 is comparable to this man's 48.3 @ 87. So include Hussey as well as a finisher!
