King Tendulkar
If they were in an ashes series away from home and went in to the final test 1-0 up? If in the same position as India would they have enforced the follow on and give oppo outside hope of drawing the series and retaning the ashes or would they have batted again to ensure they win the series and bring that little urn back home? We all know what they would have done. Every captain from Ponting, Waugh, Vaughan etc. They would have batted again to ensure they bring back that precious little urn. And every commentator, pundit, fan etc would have backed it 100% and rejoiced at winning the ashes! Link to comment

yoda
yes, they would have batted again. prolly much faster than we did in the 2nd. then again they prolly wouldn't have lost 3 quick wickets. Link to comment

Nasser and Atherton talked big while commentating but put in position india were but in oz , they would have batted till tea the next day! Link to comment

I don't know mate, clairvoyancy has never been my forte...:haha: In any case, even if they would have batted on, would they have scored 12 runs off 96 balls or taken 60 overs to score a measly 180 runs ? Read their minds again and then get back to me on that one...:haha: Link to comment
beetle
Aussies would have enforced a follow on. Pommies would have batted again and not declared at all ...... Link to comment

After losing ashes in england. Aussies would have batted on as well in last ashes series. They would have done anything to win them back! Link to comment
Guest dada_rocks
There is no need of mind reading btw Vaughan has explicitly said he wud have done exactly the same Link to comment
Gambit
Australia, RSA or any other team would have enforced the follow on. If in the slight chance of them not doing so, they would have batted 35 overs or so and gone for broke and not scored at just 3 RPO like we did. Link to comment

How do you know they wouldn't have enforced the follow-on ?[/quote'] Because they did not: http://usa.cricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/2004-05/PAK_IN_AUS/SCORECARDS/PAK_AUS_T1_16-20DEC2004.html And this against Pakistan of all teams, who have never won anything in Australia for eternity. http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/ausveng/engine/match/249222.html Against England at home http://usa.cricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/2005-06/WI_IN_AUS/SCORECARDS/WI_AUS_T1_03-07NOV2005.html Against WI at home One game in recent times, they enforced the follow on was against NZ when there was very little time left in the game I think more often than not, Aussies have chosen to bat on, since VVS's 281. Prove me wrong. Bheembhai can you compile stats on the below: Since VVS's 281 am interested in knowing how many times, teams have decided against follow ons. To compute this you need a SQL for the run differential in the first two innings of the match (> 200) and the former team continued to bat vs put the opposition in. If you can express this as a percentage it would be even better Link to comment

Salu 86
any brave captain like Imran Khan will always go to enforce follow-on in 1982 series Imran did enforced even when the lead was exact 200. he could have come up to bat to avoid batting on 5th day but he... Dhondy again its not offensive.just my Opinion Link to comment
