They tried to ban women working after 8 PM. They said it was for their safety as women on the streets after 8 gives rise to crime. I guess ban was for girls working in a bar and it was not by government but a police diktat.

And who are you or the government to allow them exception or not? They are tax paying citizens and have a right to any kind of legal job of at any time. It's the law enforcement's responsibly to make the city safer, not to put women in a cage.

The area is severely orthodox Muslim dominated. I would like to make amends to your statement. Orthodox is not the right word here. It is possible to be orthodox and humane/rational at the same time. Our media also does the same thing; i.e labels these people as Orthodox, label molesters as eve teasers, so as to make the crime appear lesser. Prima facie, these people are religious fanatics. Nothing more, nothing less.
